We have a 1996 Sun Valley with some really pretty baby blue curtains (YUCK!) that have started falling apart.  I would like to know if any one has a pattern to make these curtains and/or any better suggestions for hanging them.  Right now they are held onto the tracks with white clips that are sewn to the fabric.

campfogYou could use velcro to put new curtains up.  RV stores sell the plastic tabs on tape that you can sew onto any curtains.  Some people have taken the tabs off the old curtains and sewn them onto new ones.

campfog#1 use the old curtains for paterns for the new ones and #2 use buttons to hold the curtains in the track. Just sew them to the top of the curtain and then slide them in the end of the track. Make sure you check that the buttons are small enough to slide in the track but large enough to not come out the center opening.
IMO they work better than the plastic tabs.

campfogI have torn my curtains from the sewn on plastic tabs. I pop riveted them back on.

Just make sure you rivet from the right side so the rivet clears the track...

Thanks for your question.  It helped me too.  But as I said in a different post, mine are a lovely (she said as she gagged) rust color.  I think I ll try the button idea.  That sounds like it might work.  Good thing Momma taught me to sew!!

campfogI also used the buttons, I think they were baby sized buttons but they worked great!  Fit right in the track.  I d use the old curtains for a pattern.

campfogI plan to make new curtains for mine this year also.  We had some mouse damage to ours last year, so I took them down this year so that I could make new ones over the winter.  I don t understand how the buttons would work, since the clips go outside of the track, not on the inside.

campfogLast year, I washed my curtains, according to the manufacturers instructions, and they shrank. Also, some of the plastic tabs were so worn that if you looked at them wrong, they would fall. I ended up just resewing the hem on mine, but you could just use your old curtains as a pattern. If you like the privacy lining, you could actually just sew over your old curtains.  I would cut a piece of fabric about two inches bigger all around than the curtain. Then make a 1"  hem all around, then fold the fabric around your old curtain and sew around, that way you won t be able to see the old fabric from the inside. If they are light enough blue, you may not be able to see it through the fabric either. The plastic tabs for the track however, I found at my dealer for pennies a piece. I thought they would be hard to sew on, but my machine sewed right throught them. The buttons are a good idea as long as you have the right track. Meaning if you look at your plastic tabs from the side, the top almost looks like a mushroom. If you don t than the buttons won t work.

campfogThank you everyone for all of your responses.  I think I like the last one the best because it sounds like the easiest!!!  I appreciate it!!!

campfogThanks for the clarification on the plastic tabs.  Mine are not like a mushroom, they are shaped more like a U.

MPTDATAs far as the privacy curtains having the insulated backing, that can be purchased at most fabric stores.  It s made for drapery backs and helps cut down on the heat.  It s sort of rubberized, but it s very easy to sew through.  I had it on my drapes at my house to help them last longer.

I m assuming the buttons would slide inside the track, vs. the clips that slide over the outside of the track.

Camping CoxesYeah I know about the backing, but I never have any luck when I line anything!!  LOL I just figured it would be easier to just sew over the old ones if the new fabric was not too thin to see the old fabric through them. Especially if the old curtains are a really light blue. Also that is a great way to get a perfect fit.

campfogone of the things I didn t like about Coleman PU s are all those curtains hanging around.  I find them visually distracting.

Jayco has roll-up bunk privacy curtains that shouldn t be difficult to replicate.

You would need a bar from side-to-side and then you slip the fabric over it (sew a seam large enough to fit around the bar).

My cutains have a flat rod in the bottom hem (keeps them from flapping, and makes them easy to roll up).

There are three pieces of matching fabric strips with velcro at the ends so that once the curtains are rolled the strips lock them in place.

The front and side window systems are more complicated because they have slides on cord that enable you to raise/lower them to the desired height.

If interested, I suggest you knock on a Jayco owner s door and ask for a look-see.
