We are planning to camp at James Island either this October or next April, depending on my wife's ability to walk after her PCL surgery of a month ago. It looks and sounds nice, but I was wondering if anyone has camped there and what they thought of the campground. Thanks for any responses. joecirwin@gmail.com

We've been there a few times and are going back Aug. 1-3 in order to use the water park.  We can't wait.  There is a lot to do inside the park.  The bathhouses are kept up with private showers and changing rooms.  Plus they have a nice size camp store that is usually well stocked with wood and ice and a few other misc. items you might need.  We would highly recommend this park.  It is also not far from grocery stores and restaurants, Folly Beach and other area attractions.  Though when we've gone we've generally stayed in the park except to make a grocery run.  You will have fun either time you go.  One year I'd love to stay for the Holiday Festival of lghts, but that is always booked!

Last December, we wanted to camp there during the Festival of Lights the last 3 nights of the month, including New Year's Eve. I just happened to call on a day when they had just had a cancellation, and we got a nice w/e site. We loved the campground, and walking over to the lights was very convenient. The kids loved it.

The park is very clean and has quite a bit to do. We would very much like to go back. My sister and her family live just across the river from Charleston, and her two girls stayed with us at the cg. Hopefully we can camp there again when we go down for a visit. We ended up only camping 2 nights, and staying with my sister the 3rd night. They forecast a low of 28 on New Year's Eve with wind. We bowed out, packed up and went to her house!

I would not camp there June through August (we don't like really hot camping).

Thanks everyone for your positive comments about JI cg. It looks like we will go in October. We saw the Doc yesterday and he told her to begin putting as much weight on her leg as she could. We plan to do a lot of walking in downtown Charleston....our favorite city in US. I was stationed there at the end of the 1960s. Thanks again; I am looking forward to the trip.
