Have you seen this? It is totally portable with a built in rechargable battery that runs the pump and uses a standard 16.5 oz. propane bottle for heating the water. It is supposed to heat up to 40 gallons of water on a single charge and one bottle of propane. You can either use a 5 gallon bucket that comes with the unit, or you can hook up to camp water. It also has a shower head attachment that you can buy for about $10.00 for taking showers out in the wild. It sells for about $180.00, will be available Sept. 1st and can be seen on Coleman s website at Coleman.com. Does anyone plan on buying one of these? I think I may have to investigate this more.

CajunCamperHere s a link to the item on the coleman web site: http://www.coleman.com/coleman/colemancom/detail.asp?product_id=2300-700

It might be useful for dry camping, but I wonder if it s noisy?  We haven t dry camped yet (we re a bit too spoiled and with a 2 y/o DS, electricity is nice for when someone gets grumpy and needs a Pooh video) so it s not something we would probably buy.  Besides, we have enough " stuff"  to haul when we go camping!  CajunCamperI saw it a while back, there was another thread about it here at PUT.  If I didn t have a hot water heater I would get one.  They look nice.

CajunCamperI just got the Coleman " Hot water On Demand"  System [:)]...It is a VERY nice package!! We do not have a hot water heater in our Utah and I know this will work out just fine...We got the unit, carrying/storage bag, and spray/shower adapter...The hose adapter is still on backorder...We ve already cleaned and tested the unit and it works great...You just turn the knob and you get cool to VERY hot water in an instant...........Triffid

CajunCamperTriffid would you mind telling us how much it cost and where you got it?

Triffid

CajunCamperWe paid $179.99 for the unit and ordered it direct from the Coleman site....

CajunCamperThis looks like a great product....guess I know what is going on my Christmas wish list.

CajunCamperHersheyGirl got one at the Coleman Factory Outlet in Tannersville, PA (on the COTOC trip).  They gave everyone in our group 20% off, because there were so many of us.[:D]  She tested it at the campground and it worked great.

I think this is a great item to have.  I use mine all the time for quick hand washing to dishes...it needs the garden hose adapter ($19.95) if you have water at the site...the 5 gallon container runs out very fast.   Overall it's great, but the size and weight is a little more than I like.

Greetings,
We were at SAMS Club today and they had some as a "One time only"purchase. There were only 4 left.Besides camping use I may try it for bathing our 3 big labs outside! Save our bathroom!!!  I am glad everyone seems pleased with them as they were cheaper than the coleman site  had them listed, but still a bit expensive.   can't wait to try it out....pupeye

I just received my Hot Water On Demand. It came with a carry case, shower hose, protective cover and one 12v and one 110v charger.

We cleaned it out, per the directions and were amazed at how fast it heats the water. We're going to take it with us this weekend and try it out, along with our Paha Que outhouse that came with our camper two years ago and never got used.

So far it's really neat! :)

On this last pop-up, we opted to not get the hot water option.... something we regreted.... until the Hot Water on Demand! Portable and, like Kathy said.... fast! and just plain handy. Wish it were a little lighter but thats the price paid for having a rechargable battery built in. Oh, and next hurricane that blows by here... we will have hot water!:D

This thing is great! We loved it on our last trip.

I like that it's portable- I moved it around the campsite and used it where I needed to- with the Paha Que shower tent, or to rinse the dog off or on the picnic table.

Since we lose power at our home often during the summer months, I'm looking forward to having it.

We picked up a Coleman HWOD recently after purchasing a "New to Us" 2002 Jayco QWEST 10V. We looked at a new popup with water heater, etc, and just couldn't justify the extra cost for features we might or might not use.

Our one regret was not having the hot water heater ... but the HWOD is GREAT! Quick setup, can run either off the "little bottles" or with the adapter we already had I can hook it up to a 20# bottle. The only thing I don't like (and it's the same thing I didn't like about the Coleman battery shower, which I also generally love as a "quickie" outdoor water pump) is that the pump only screws onto the coleman collapsing 5 gal water bottle. I have TERRIBLE luck keeping those things from getting leaks! I did find though that the pump will immerse in the WalMart Aquatainer (again, same as the battery shower pump) which provides a 7 gallon water option. One of these days I may try to make an adapter to attach the pump to other sized water bottles.

I bought ours from www.popupexplorer.com
Better price than I found anywhere else (at least from "reputable" internet stores). IIRC it was 154.95 ... I also got the shower attachment and the hose adapter. Didn't bother with the carry bag, since it will "live" inside our popup cabinet when not in use when camping. The nice thing is that we can use it even when dry camping ... still have to figure out how long the battery will last between chargings.
