We have our first pop up and had a bad experience on our second voyage. We strarted at about 10 miles out by overheating the hub and so I repacked the bearings, then about 20 miles later we had a blow-out. The hub was smoking so I went to repack the bearings only to be scalded with boiling grease under pressure when I removed the grease cap. The brake parts were destroyed so I repacked the bearings and made it to the campsite. I then found new bearings and replaced both sides and removed the brakes from the other side for the return trip.

I have Goodyear Marathon C rated tires which I have now learned are not strong enough for my Jayco Manistee camper. I am going to replace all of the surge brake parts, but I need recommendations on tires rated to carry a 3000 lb camper. I can't seem to find ratings on trailer tires.

What a bad experience!  Don't give up on PU camping!

Based on several peoples experience I would highly recommend East Bay Tire.  They will sell what's right for your trailer. Or call Duro Tire (check their web site for the number and they can refer you to a dealer in your area.

Hope this helps.
