Hello Everyone,

In the market for a new PU. After much reading and research have narrowed it down to a Fleetwood Cheyenne or a Sea Pine. For all the Fleetwood/Coleman owners out there, if you were to choose between these two units which would you choose and why?

Thanks for your help and input!!

If the Sea Pine is the one I think it is, we chose the Cheyenne over it because the dinette made it difficult to access the rear bed. Have you been inside both of these models, or are you looking at floor plans only?

If you'd like to know any specifics about the Cheyenne from a long-time user of one, let me know!

Ok, here is our long story.  We too took a very hard look and after much research decided on the Fleetwoods after looking at the Starcrafts and Rockwoods.

The Sea Pine is from the economy series (Destiny) Fleetwood PUPs.  The Cheyenne is heavier and more expensive and is from their middle series (Americana).

Aside from price and weight there are several differences/features.  The dealer physically showed us these differences and we chose the 2006 Cheyenne for these reasons, such as the rackrails on the rooftop (ready for up to 300 lbs. of bike or canoe or other rack systems), the inside/carryout water resistant table, the sturdier metal seat frames, the back saver self storing bunkend bed supports, the standard outdoor stove OR RVQ grill, the stepper door entry, the no-tip swing over galley with larger porcelain sink and three burner stove, larger capacity water holding tank (20 gal vs. 10), the front outside storage trunk and the waist level crank.  Ours also came with the furnace and the extra 6 gallon HWT AND the outdoor shower, a camper caddie, two bunkend bed fan/light combo and a mirrored vanity mate over the sink.  We also really liked the floor plan as it allows for lots of sleeping room without having to do much crawling over.

We could not talk the dealer down in price (we bought in late May and I think we paid premium but was still comparable to what prices we saw in the Starcrafts and Rockwoods) but we were able to get them to throw in the awning attachable screen room and the outside shower tent, along with some of the wiring and brake controller.

We have been out several times since May and are extremely happy with our choice.  In fact, the Saturday we picked up from the dealer, it had a fully charged battery and filled propane tank, so we went straight from the dealer to a nearby (hour and a half) lakeside campsite for a test with no major problems.  We had just one small glitch from our last trip this past weekend where we had to travel 90 kilometres over a bumpy dirt/gravel logging road.  We reached the dry camp site and the hose attached from the water tank to the water pump snapped off and was not repairable by me.  Oh well, a few trips using a 5 gallon jug provided us with water.  When we returned, a quick call to the dealer and they have taken care of us.  Just remember that it does cost and weigh more and that you need to be happy and comfortable with the dealer.  Get them to take the time to really show you ALL the workings of your purchase.  Ours here in Vancouver BC, Canada, did and they seem to be taking good care of us.  They also gave/give us a 10% discount on anything we purchase in the future from their camping/RV accessory store.

We did not like the presentations the Starcraft and Rockwood dealers gave us.  We were actually in the market for a small hard side but the Fleetwood dealer did not recommend it for our vehicle and pointed us toward their PUPs which were LESS expensive than the hard side but would give us more bang for our buck.  Again looking out for both or our best interests so that we are happy and can recommend them and make future purchases.

So to conclude, I guess it all does depends on how you feel about the dealer, what features you want, what you can afford and what you can tow.

I hope this helps, and GOOD LUCK and enjoy!
