Was wondering if I could get a few comments on the Dewalt drill that SamClub is currently selling.  Looking to use it to raise and lower the roof on my Viking (no AC).  I have looked through many of the posts, didnt really find much other than the Dewalt 987 articles.

Quote from: fourgonefishnI just used my 18 volt Sat. To raise roof take alot of arm strength the torque is unreal, I'm thinking of buying a cheap corded 1/2 drill for this as I don't want to blow out my DEWalt. Don't take it wrong it does work try it and seebut, you will need a fresh battery or it won't make it. Works great on sand pad legs.
I bought the one in the first link below from HarborFreifgt over a year ago. They have it on sale often for $39.99. I've raised the roof with it at least 25-30 times and it works great. The only problem is, it runs it up a bit fast. I think if I had to do it over again, I would by the slower one in the 2nd link. It's often on sale for $79.

High Performance Motor Delivers 450 in-lbs of Maximum Torque
Dual Speed Range for Optimal Performances: 0-450/0-1,500 RPM

These are the key things you are looking for, minimum of 400 in-lbs of torque and the ability to control the speed.

If you are only going to use it for the pop up, look at teh postings in  wavery's post - you will save money.  If you plan on using it around the ouse also i would stick with the DeWalt - a much stronger, longer lasting unit.

Man thats a big *$@ Drill. I'm trying to downsize on what I bring along camping.  I do have the sale ad from them and a store about 3 miles away. I'll keep my eyes peeled til then I'll use my DeWalt. It does the job with 2 speeds and variable, just a lot of torque.
