Hi Folks

Forgive me if this is awkward, its my first post.  We have a 2002 Coleman Cheyanne.  Before that we use my parents 76 coleman concord.

Anyway, I was just wondering if any of you have any experience with the Cottonwood Shade Shelter by Paha Que.  We're looking for a product that can cover a picinic table and provide shade and rain protection while eating.  We've use a Eureka Screen house for quite a long time but we find it warm and a drag to keep opening and closing.  We've also gone back and tried the old Fly and five poles system but that blows down and collects water in the corners everytime it rains.

It seems from previous posts that this is a good company.

Any opinions would be helpful.

Thanks

First af all, Welcome to PUT!
Paha Que makes a very good product, but they are a bit pricey for me. We have a 10'x10' EZ-Up. It was about $70 (The 12'x12' was 20 more). It goes up in 30 seconds with 2 people( I never camp alone) I've put it up myself before but it is a bit of a chore. The 10x10 fits perfectly over most campground picnic tables and is Very sturdy.
Hope this helped and Happy Camping.

Thanks Werner

Any info is helpfull.  Have you found the EZ-Up Water proof?  I've looked at them but was a bit put off by the Wt.  I usually like to store them in the trunk in my camper, but I think the EZ-up would have to go in the Truck.

We have something similar to the EZ-up, called the Quik Shade. I believe the Quik Shade is heavier, but I'm OK with that for now. Keeps it in place if a gust of wind comes up. We love ours!

Although I have no personal experience with Paha Que, I have heard nothing but good about their products.

Absolutely. I've had it up in torrential(sp?) downpours and it never leaked. You are correct about the weight. It is a bit heavy, but we strap it to the roofrack on the Windstar. The extra weight keeps it from blowing away in a strong wind LOL!

Thanks for all your responses guys.  This gives me some good stuff to use.  Maybe we'll see you guys out there someday.

Hi Steve,

We are from NJ and new here too...we are still tenting but looking to go pop-up soon.  Anyway, we have a Paha Que screen house that we use when we go to the Outer Banks camping.  It looks very similar to the shade shelter in that the top is the same and I think it goes up the same way.  We find it a chore to put up, but once it is up it stays up.  It is the best thing we have found to use at the beach with the winds.  One time a terrible storm went through the area.  We were out and unable to take down the screen house to avoid losing it to the very strong winds.  It was still up when we returned and we were shocked as the storm claimed almost every other large tent in the campground.  The shade shelter should not be so difficult to put up as it should be lighter without the screen walls.  Our poles bent a little as a result of that storm which actually made it easier to erect the next time out.  The only negative thing we found were the black guy lines that came with it.  They made no sense as you could not see them at night...a little hazardous.

Hope this info helps!

We've also got a 10 x 10 EZ Up.  Love it!  Ours is green, with a silver lining on the inside.  What we do, is set it up with the picnic table under one side, and our outdoor kitchen on the other side.  With the EZ Up, you can lower the roof down to about 3 feet off the ground with out any dissassembly.  So, at night, and when we are not around the campsite, we drop the top down over everything.  It is much easier to set up with two people, but, by staking down one corner, one person can easily do it too.  The only drawback, is the size and weight, which is well worth the trade off.   It gets used for much more than camping, we use it for picnics, I set it up when I need to work on my mowers, we've had it at the beach, rocket launches, ball games, ect.

I have a Paha Que screen room and I think the quality of the product is worth the money.  Good luck on what ever brand screen room.:)

Once again, thanks folks.  Sorry I'm slow in getting back to everyone.  But its been one of those weeks at work (can't wait to get out and camp), anyway we did wind up getting the Sun Shade so once we use we'll post again and let you guys know how we made out.

Just as a side note, This company, Paha Que, seems to be top notch.  When I called to have one reserved, as the web site said they were out of stock, the salesman said It would be in around the end of June, I'm like, Ok no problem.  Then he proceed to get on the computer and tell me that at that very moment Amazon.com had the exact model in stock and it would be cheaper as well.  He also said they were running a free shipping deal.  I was blow away.  He also said to call if there were any issues with the products.  They will have my business for a long time.

Hey Everyone

I'm sure your all waiting with great anticipation (second only to Harry Poter and the Deathly Hallows) a follow up about our use witht the Cottonwood Sund Shelter.

The short answer is that we were extremely pleased and would highly reccomend the canopy.

A couple of notes just for future use:
1. The black guy lines are a bear to see at night.  We tied some neon flagging tape to each cord and it made a huge difference.

2. Use two people to set it up and take it down.  I had a chance to sample the outstanding customer service  Paha Que has before even leaving for a camping trip.  I was taking the canopy down by myself and all of a sudden on of the poles split at the end, don't know if it was a defective pole or I really did something wrong, but its all good.  Paha Que  fixed it free of charge and with no hassels.

Again, we really like the shelter and the company and I would not hesitate to buy another product from them.
