JAYCO® Donates Use of Two Motorhomes to the Tour of Duty As They Bike Across the U.S.
RV Company supports cause for first responders and military personnel.
MIDDLEBURY, Ind. – The Tour of Duty, a group of 24 Australian and American military, firefighters, and police set off on their bicycle journey across the United States starting from the USS Midway in San Diego on Sunday, August 12 and finishing in New York on September 10. Their 2,600 mile ride will stop in various cities across the U.S. to honor and show appreciation for both nations’ first responders.
Jayco, America’s largest privately owned RV manufacturer, has donated the use of two motorhomes, a Seneca 36FK and a Greyhawk 31SS, for the Tour of Duty to use as support vehicles along their journey. “We are proud to get behind such a great cause.” said Derald Bontrager, President of Jayco. “Those that serve our country continuously carry out selfless acts of courage and deserve the respect and admiration that this ride represents.”
In 2010, Australian and American firefighters and police united for a relay run across the United States from Los Angeles to New York, where Jayco also donated the use of two motorhomes as support vehicles. After great response in 2010, the Tour of Duty became an event of magnitude and pride as both participants and spectators reflect on the role and courage of the firefighters, military, police and emergency service personnel who continue to serve and protect both nations along with those whose lives were lost in the devastating terrorism attacks of September 11, 2001.
As a cycling event for the first time, the group started in San Diego at the USS Midway and will finish at the USS Intrepid in New York, the 2,600 mile ride comprises of 20 stages across the United States. The ride pays tribute to the hundreds of people who responded to the attacks on September 11 in New York and Washington, D.C. and to those who continue to serve in the fight for security and peace. Funds raised along the way will support the Wounded Warrior project and the New York Police and Fire widows and childrens fund.
