ok well I guess the PUP's batteries are bad.  I charged them over night, left them with no load for 24 hours, and they are no at 80%.  I guess I will be shopping for two new batteries!  yeah!

I know that your batteries are wired together. Try removing both positive cables. Charge the batteries separately, let sit for 24-hours then check the voltage on each battery. You may find that one battery is bad, drawing down the other battery.

I will try that, but I was told by a semi-reliable source that if one is bad its best to replace both at the same time....

Just read through this and thought my two cents would help.  1st the detecter will sound off on low voltage, 2nd the detector has a 5-7 year shelf life from the time it is first used.  this maybe a warning that it is time to replace the detector because yours is no longer effective.  most alarms have a set of beep codes for differnt conditions. ie low battery, error, time to replace etc...So yes you need to read your manual or the back side of your detecter. hope this helps, Bryan

ok well on Waverys advice, I disconnected the pos from both battery's.  charged and left 24 hours.  One went to 50% and one went to 70%.  I guess its time for new batteries.  Lucky we don't dry camp much...
