Quote from: waveryBecause if we want something done right.....we have to PAY$$$$ for it....

If we want greed, power mongers, corruption and lies.....just keep doing what we're doing and we'll keep get what we're getting.

Do you really believe that money is the answer? Do you really think that if you pay a President 20 million dollars a year that all of a sudden all of the greed, corruption, lies and the hunger for power will magically go away? Is that what you are saying?

What we need are men and women of real character that love this country and that have the ability to inspire the American people with a vision and true leadership to throw their names into the ring. It didn't happen this year, but I have a feeling that after this election, it might happen next go around and money won't be the motivation. It never is.

That hasn't happened in the last 233 years, why would anyone think that it will happen now or next election?

The problem is.....the system isn't working. It needs to be fixed. All this ideological BS is just that.... The country needs to be run more like a profitable corporation than a bankrupt institution.

Quote from: PopUPTimesfree protection for life

Actually, in 1997, Congressional legislation became effective limiting Secret Service protection to former presidents for a period of not more than 10 years from the date the former president leaves office.  William Jefferson Clinton will be the last President to have protection for life, unless Congress decides to change the law.

There have been plenty of good men elected President, were they perfect? No. Did they make mistakes? Yes. But to say we have never had good men in the White House is totally rediculous.

Let's say you are right though. Let's say we haven't had a good President in the entire history of the U.S.  How in the Hell is raising the salary of the office going to accomplish a different result?

The topic came up around the dinner table to write in my brother-in-law and have the rest of the family do the same. I guess there is something that says if he gets atleast 10 votes they have to list him or some nonsense like that. Then atleast I can say that I voted, right?

Can't wait for my parting gift from George. That's going to cure everything that's wrong.......with me.

My parting gift from George is our VACATION FUND. That may just cure everything that's wrong with me...I need a great Camping Vacation.

Quote from: ScouterMomNope - the pickin's are pretty slim.....

Hell of a thing to pick a President because he's 'not as bad' as the other candidates.

Laura

I did that in 1992....the lesser of 3 evils. Too bad that "lesser of 3 evils" was Clinton that managed to turn the White House into a bordelo...

Quote from: AZsixPeople that run for president are all rich to begin with so they don't need the money. But along with the salary comes free room and board, free laundry service, free travel, free health-care (for life) plus a salary for life. Then of course there's all the money they will make from their memoirs and speaking engagements after wards.

Maybe it's not the presidents salary that's out of line but the ceo salaries. It amazes me when you see a company laying people off, having their worst year ever yet the ceo gets a huge bonus and is making millions to begin with.

I was thinking about running for president but then I realized that if elected my days of pup camping would be over so I scrapped the idea.  :screwy:

Actually, it is not free room and board...our President (and his family living at the White House) has to pay for all of their meals, with the exception being State Dinners. Now granted, they do not get "free" room, but they still have to maintain a household outside of the White House. I think that most people forget exactly what the President and his family give up for a possible 8 years. It is not easy by any stretch of the imagination. How would any of us like to have every minute of every day planned out for us? 3pm bathroom break...no wait a minute, I don't have to go to the bathroom...sorry, you are not scheduled another bathroom break until 9:57pm.

Thanks for the correction. I didn't know that. However.............I must say again that current day presidents are already rich when they become president and can afford a house (or two, or three) outside of the white house. They clearly don't do it for the money.

I wouldn't want the job since I am not willing to give up all that one must to have the job.

McCampers

I wouldn't have the presidents job either.  If we had a king I wouldn't mind being the king, but not a president.  Not enough power to get anything done.  Besides, When does he get to go camping?  Never.
