I have a 99 Dakota.  When I first bought it I purchased and installed a 4 wire flat adapter that I bought at the local auto parts store.  Being electronically challenged that is about the extent of my abilities.  I would like to add a hot wire to power the frig while traveling.  The PU is prewired for this I just need a power source form the TV.  I really do not want to get involved with diodes and relays.  Yet every time this subject has come up in the past that is always suggested.  It has been suggested to me to tie into the cigarette lighter which is only hot when the key is in the on position, but that is rather awkward and involves running a wire though the fire wall.  Does anybody know if there is a connection somewhere under the truck that I can just plug into that is only hot when the key is on and supplies adequate amperage.  It is so easy to plug in the four wire adapater it just seems that the manufacturer would have provided for a auxiliry power supply to a trailer also.

GarrettYou can always hook a #12 or #10 wire direct to your battery cable, BEING SURE TO PUT AN IN-LINE FUSE REALLY CLOSE TO THE CONNECTION WITH THE BATTERY.  Run the large wire all the way through the frame (staying away from the exaust and moving parts) until you get to the back of your truck and a plug for your PU.  The wire is hot all the time but the fuse will blow if you have a short.  You can always pull the fuse when you don t want power back to the plug.  Remember to use a larger stranded wire since DC voltage drops quickly the longer the wire is!
