I am on the verge of either plunging into the purchase of am  03 Utah, or forever holding my peace with my 2000 Mesa. I have been looking at the advantages all along (newer, more room with the glide out, some Coleman show extras), but I never thought until today about disadvantages. So far I have come up with:
 1) Less interior cabinet space,
2)lack of access to fridge with top down because the galley would block it?
3)DS would sleep next to our bunk end rather than next to DD s in other bunk (good for him, but see sex in popup thread in old forums)
  4) less interior floor storage with top down. We would put DD s trailer bike , cooler, etc. in large space inside the door, which I assume would be taken up by the galley.
Does anyone have any arguments for or against? I have a good deal pending that I may have to act on by tomorrow.

campingeyedocSorry, but #3 is a deal breaker for me[&:]

tlhdoc

campingeyedoc#1 I would miss the cabnet space

#2 would be a big problem for me.  I have to pop the top to get to my fridge.  I wish I didn t.

#3 couldn t you sleep in the rear bunk?  They are both the same size.  Personally I like to sleep near the door.

#4 You will still have some space near the door, but not as much

Do you have the Mesa packed full or do you have unused space?  How much time do you spend inside?  A new trailer is nice that is for sure.  Good luck.

campingeyedocI think were deciding to keep the Mesa- not enough time to go camp anyway, and not in it that much when we are there. I guess it s time to start with the modifications that I didn t want to start when I thought I might sell it.

Camper Dan

 campingeyedocHi all[:D],

I recall hearing/reading, some time ago, that one of the big Coleman units, with the slideout, was having problems with wear spots on the slideout tenting, a fraying action against the A/C unit while traveling.  They had to take special care when folding the trailer to avoid/minimize this problem.  Anyone else remember this?

camper4pack

campingeyedocWe have the 2002 Utah.  If there was a problem we have yet to encounter this in the past year we used it 11 times out.
Please let me know what to look for.  We have an a/c also.

 Thanks!

campingeyedocWe went from a 2000 Santa Fe to a 2002 Utah and would never think of a different camper!

For our family, the refrigerator thing (being able to access it with the top down) is a moot point. I always pop up before leaving on a trip.

We sleep in the bunk near the galley. DD sleeps on the gaucho and DS sleeps in the other bunk.

We re not heavy travelers, so the cabinet space isn t an issue. The cabinet across from the galley is virtually empty.

We LOVE the space inside the Utah. We have spent a few rainy days playing games and hanging out in there. Being able to get around each other is wonderful.

The Utah was THE camper we always wanted, so we are very happy with it.

 campingeyedoccampingeyedoc,

I have a 03 Utah cp and love it. [;)]

Camper DanI haven t heard about that one either.

However, the plumbing that runs under the slide out was a known problem on the earlier models.  They should have fixed that by now..  Just check the archives for more information.

I haven t noticed any excessive wear on our tenting - just use common sense when opening & closing and you should be fine.
