How about a fall trip back to Hickory Run SP?  The fall colors should be at their peek in later September.  The park does allow pets, has some electric hookups, hot showers and flush toilets.   Here is a link to the parks web site.

tlhdocIt s really soon for me to know about fall plans, but gut feeling tells me the last weekend would be better!

tlhdocRight now either date is fine.  Count me in..[:D] I have two pets, so do we have to go to another loop like in most parks?

tlhdoctlhdoc:  sounds promising.  It s about a 5 hr (give or take) ride for me (250 miles), but I do want to get into PA at some point and Fall is my favorite season.

I looked at the campground map -- it s pretty big !   What specific area would you be looking at?  I have dogs I would probably bring, but could leave home if need be.

I like sites that offer a bit of privacy; I m not fond of being able to see and be seen on wide-open sites -- what is this park like?

My only problem is conflict with the kids  football season -- from late August til November it s every dang weekend and with (2) who ll be playing Varsity ball next year, I ll have to do some fast talking to miss a game [:)]

I d love to consider it though -- would appreciate your feedback about the grounds.

tlhdocSorry, I forget I m a  guest  on this site.  Above message by " Gia"

 tlhdocTracy,

Finally got a chance to sit down and do some catching up.

Of course we are IN for another Fall weekend at Hickory Run.  Too close to say no.

We had such a blast last Fall, didn t we.  It s still far away, time wise, but I selected the latter weekend mainly as it s a little farther away from the Holiday weekend.  Too hard to get time off work so close together.

It would be great if all the attendee s of last Fall could be there again  (kinda like a reunion) as well as the never befores.  Could make for a BIG turnout.

I see the pet question came up and I do know that Hickory Run is allowing pets this year but not sure where the desiginated sites are.  Next time I take a day trip over there (after this darn snow melts) I ll check.

tlhdocWe voted for the last weekend...  We have reservations at North Lake Sept 5th through the 7th, (on site 171 AGAIN!) so we would like to space it out a little bit.

tlhdocWe are planning on going camping at Disney in October so September works for us.  I didn t vote thought.  Does anyone know when the race at Pocono is?  I want to avoid that weekend if there is a race.

MTNDAVE

 tlhdocTracy,

I don t see a race for that weekend so we should be good.

Hi and sorry it took me so long to get back to you.  I called the park and asked about the pet sites.  They gave me the following site numbers 209, 211, 216, and 220 that have electric and sites 279 thru 297 non-electric.  When we have had group trips there in the past most people have wanted electric so we have used the electric loops.

I didn t really look at the non-electric sites at HR.  It isn t like a parking lot but none of the sites are real private.  Site 216 flooded on the trip last June so I would avoid it if you could.  The non-electric sites are all over in the other side of the park.  I have never looked at the sites there, but they are closer to the road.  I would go for 209 or 211 because they are away from the road and close to where most of the group will be, but I don t know what they are really like.  HersheyGirl had a site in that area last June maybe she would know.

tlhdocI called the reservation number for PA state parks again to day.  I was told that the electric loop will be closed September 8, 2003 until May 2004.  I called the park directly when I got home tonight and the man I talked to didn t know of any work that would close part of the campground this fall.  He will call me back tomorrow and let me know.

DiW

tlhdocWow, what could they be doing that would take that long? If not HR, do you have anywhere else in mind. About 30 min east of HR is Otter Lake, which allows pets and has lots to do (including indoor pool, tennis, racquetball, ceramics...). Downside is it s private and more expensive.

 tlhdocUpdate

Ranger Rice called me back from Hickory Run tonight and told me that the campground will be open.  They called the call center and it is supposed to be straightened out.  I will call in the morning and see and then post it here to let everyone know.
