Our 12V water pump sure is noisy ! The level of noise is difficult to objectify-but I ll give it a stab.It is not as loud as most shouts, but  probably is similar in volume to loud conversation. Is this normal ? What can be done to muffle the sound ?

kathybrj

forestwalkerHow is it mounted? Is there a rubber base that it s mounted on to absorb the vibration noise? Ours was mounted on something that added to the rattle, so we moved it and added an extra piece of rubber on the bottom. That seems to have quieted it down a bit.

rccs

forestwalkerI mounted mine on top of a piece of blue foam camping mat that I had left over from one I cut up to make a cushion for something else. It made it a lot quieter. Also make sure that any tubing coming from or going to the pump that is near to the pump isn t laying against something and vibrating when the pump runs. Cushion the tubing with foam rubber also if necessary. Some noise is normal though.

forestwalkerkathybrj and rccs have hit on the two most common sources of pump noise.  Most manufacturers just bolt the pump in any available mounting location without using any cushion.  The noise this makes added to the noise of improperly secured water lines moving around can make it very had to talk while the pump is on.

Placing some sort of cushion (large rubber washers will do) under the pump and securing the water lines from slaping against nearby bulkheads will lower the noise level.

 Good luck

 forestwalkerHi all[:D],

They make special sound/vibration isolation mounts you could use.  I ll check the catalogs at work Monday and see if I can steer you to a web site.  The have rubber washer/isolators/bushings that work perfectly with the properly sized bolts...it s not not that expensive to do it with the right stuff.[;)]

I work on pumps for a living and deal with this stuff all the time.  It s just that I go to the storeroom at work to get what I need.  I ll have to look at their vender catalogs.

Or this might help:  [link=http://www.grainger.com/]Grainger Industrial Supply[/link]

You might also look at your pump piping.  If you have rigid suction and discharge lines...you might consider using short sections of pressure rated flex hose from the pump to the rigid lines.  This would help reduce sound being telegraphed throughout the trailer.

 Hope this helps![:D]

The link provided by Dan was a common misspelling.  Adult sites purchase domain names of common misspellings of large companies just for this reason.  It now works.

 forestwalkerforestwalker,

On the last board, people solved the problem by changing the hoses used from semi-rigid to flexible ones. Read about it by clicking [link=http://www.popuptimes.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=19509]HERE[/link].

Keeping the hoses from touching parts of the trailer (by using rubber as a buffer) also reduces the noise.
