If you were only able to make one mod or one purchase for your PU this year, what would it be? and why?

I know for some it would be buy a PU[;)]

I d really like an AAR - we have 2 extended trips planned and I think the extra room would come in handy.  The price holds me back though. [&:]  I was wondering what other folks are planning on getting/doing.

whippetwrunWe ve had our Pop-up for 6 years so we ve made most of the mods we wanted already. The only one we haven t done that I would like to do is to put an awning on the offside of the camper (opposite the door side). This would allow the windows to be left open in the rain, add more shade to the camper keeping it cooler, and would give us more covered storage area than just under the bunks.

whippetwrunRina, not to be a smarta** or anything, but for the $550 price I got for a (new style) AAR quoted at our local Coleman dealer, you can do a LOT of other mods/buys to your TV/pop-up.  But there is one Coleman dealer back east who is offering new-in-the-box Old Style AAR s for about 1/3 of the above price. Can t remember who it is, hopefully somebody else will.

I think we just made our $$$ purchase for this year, a BAL Leveler.

Oh- sure, listen to me- like I m one to talk. I keep working my way around the sunflower, pulling petals and saying: " We can afford an AAR... we can t... we can afford an AAR... we can t..."

 Dave,

Yup - exactly my thinking about the AAR.  Which is why I am waffling and was curious to see what others are planning.  Thing is while there are one or two (or three. . .[:)]) other things I d like to do, I keep going right back to the AAR.   After all there will always be something to do or get or change.

If we get one, I d like to get it now so we get a few years use out of it before the kids get older and more involved in school activitied and with friends.

If you remember the dealer, either post it or email me, please! Thanks!

whippetwrunI bought an AAR 2 years ago for $350.   The dealer where I go will give you a break on accessories if you buy there.

I purchased a BAL leveler and a plastic patio mat.  I want a solar power, but I don t know if I will get it .

whippetwrunRina, I *think* it Weimer s RV, Hollidaysburg, Pa.  814-695-0932

I wrote that name down some time ago on a piece of scratch paper, then set it aside so I wouldn t lose it (thus insuring that when I finally found it again, I wouldn t remember what it was for).

 No promises. [;)]

Gamecock Camper

whippetwrunThere are actually many places you might be able to get a decent price on an AAR.  I personally think the AAR s are worth every penny and use ours on almost every trip.  I think the best prices can be had by doing one of three things:

 1) Negotiate a deal at your nearest RV show.  I did this with my first AAR, but the right dealers werern t there for the AAR I just bought.

 2) Buy a screenroom and add the privacy panels yourself.  We considered doing this and eventually decided that we don t really have the time.  It really wouldn t be that hard to do though.

 3) There are many sites online like www.rvaddons.com.  Surf the net and you might find what you are looking for at a better price.

 Good luck

whippetwrunWell, if the gas companies will decide how badly they are going to gouge us for fuel, we want to get a new TV.  Want a diesel pick-up (X-Cab, 4X4) and can afford to buy it, cash.  I DON T want to have to mortage my home just to fill the tank[:@]!  Will just have to wait and see.

LoveOurBayside

whippetwrunIf it s a really hot summer, an ACmight be beckoning us.  I hate putting up the awning so a screen room or add a room would probably drive me crazy.

If gas prices continue to rise, my next mod to the pop-up is going to be a mast and sail... [;)]

whippetwrungosh...i ve never seen anyone put an awning on the offside.  Interesting...

I couldn t go for the $400 AAR and need to get back to the DIY project (there s a separate thread going on this topic).

HOWEVER, I d really like the Carefree Colorado Super SPort awning that can easily be set up solo.  HOWEVER, I ve already put velcro on the Jayco awning and ...oh, well can t affort the awning right now either.

CHeck if the AAR is in one piece or 3.  Seems as if people cuss a lot more when they have to wrestle with the one piece ones.

whippetwrun

Ab DiverThanks Dave!  I still have to convince DH it is a worthwhile expense but the better prices I find the easier it will be.[;)]    I d like to see that mast and sail project![:D]

We ve been pulling our Bayside with a Subaru Outback.  I know.... I can hear the cringes from many already.

We purchased a 98 Durango on eBay (a leap of faith) and it is being shipped from Texas today.  Now I won t feel so nervous about pulling the thing.

ForestCreature

whippetwrunWe have no mods planned, the one we wanted to do we can t because of the placement of the AC in the Aliner. We had an ambitious plan of putting in shock lifts on the bed that would have made easy access to the inside storage...had it all figured out except for we forgot the AC was in the way[:(]

Other than that all we have done is add free standing solar charging, well worth the cost if you dry camp most of the time.
