AdminI also love the idea of a CD-type form of the old board.  Hopefully Dave can work something out, it would be a shame to lose so much info.[:o]

Jeffrey

AdminA Cd of the old forum? Now that is a very interesting idea.

Well I m sure it would be expensive to put together though.

Who would do the voices? would Dave and Steve do them all?
Would there be a music in the background?

It would be kinda fun to play in the car on the way to the campground[:D]

Well, I m not a " real"  member yet -- I m on a 10 day trial, and for the most part have only been lurking -- so perhaps my opinion is not applicable, but I felt compelled to reply anyway.

I just thought I d throw my opinion in here, trial members are members and all voices are welcome!

 Hope you stick around!

If I can still get to all that old, but useful information I just might! [:D]

And thanks for the vote of confidence...

AdminJust got my 10-day free trail of the new board and man am I upset to find out that all that great, useful info on the old board might just fade away into oblivion!!!!!!!!!!!!

Having been a advid user of the old board and knowing there was an answer to just about any PU question anyone might have, the new board would be lost without the old info.  Based upon what I ve seen so far on the new board, I don t have much interest in joining if that s all I d get for my money.  Dave has to do something to save the data!  Even if I d have to pay to get the old board on a CD THAT WOULD BE WORTH IT.

PLeaseeeeeeeeee do something to SAVE the achives.

 AdminAgain:
QuoteThe old database is currently 235MB of MS SQL information.
It costs quite a bit to keep it around.

Pop UP Times is committed to making sure the information stays available.
We are researching the best available method to do so that will not cost a
fortune or be so inconvenient it is unusable.

I will go offline on Wednesday, but will return ASAP in some usable form.
We will attempt to get it back within 2 weeks.

Admin, please don t give up the CD thing yet. Last week, a VERY popular woodworking site closed it s doors. The webmaster had run it for 6 years, and needed a life again. All in all, the membership moved on to other forums, and everybody treated it as a sad ending, but a new beginning (kind of how I wish other members of PUT had acted). The site had 4 forums: power tool, hand tool, support, and design. The power tool forum had over 450,000 messages in the archives alone!

The point is, all of the messages in all of the forums, all of the bios, pictures, LOTS of articles, FAQ s , downloads.... everything, will be made available to the members on a searchable CD. This is being handled by Andrew Field, one of the members who has experience in that type of thing. The cost for the CD(s) will be $25. In this way, the forum s VAST amount of woodworking knowledge will remain available to it s members. Perhaps you could contact this individual and see if something like that could be done with PUT s archives?

Here is the web site for the CD page. You can contact Andrew from that page.

Maybe this will help. I have no knowledge of this type of stuff, and hope I m not pointing out the obvious.

Admin" going"  away?  As far as I can tell, it IS gone.  None of the posts are there that I can see.

Later...DUH!  It helps if you tell it you want to look at the entire year.  (smacking forehead)

And later still...I  rescued  some of my campground reviews, and reposted them. [:D]

Adminah....and since you have already discovered the value of this board....i hope you will consider putting your money where your mouth is[:)]

and if you haven t already done so, you will love the PUT magazine.  Our only (well, for most/many of us) is that it s too thing and comes only once every two months.  a 2-year subscription is the best way to go for the best value.  Also, ask Dave about purchasing older issues.
