Hello to all! I m on a trial membership and hope that you will reply to my post anyway! Seems the folks here are pretty friendly. Thanks in advance for any advice!
Last fall I finally did something with my parents old ( 87 coleman shenandoah) PU they gave me 5 or 6 years ago. The roof was in sad, sad (I mean SAD) shape. A very bad water leak destroyed the entire roof. After 3 estimates I took a second , third and forth look at it and decided to fix my self (BTW, the lowest estimate was $2,200--definately worth more than the PU). I also ordered a new canvas @ $990.00. Took a week off from work and did a bang up job on the roof (if I do say so myself and it only cost me $400.00 in supplies). No leaks and sturdy....AAHHH life is good. The family and I have had a blast on the two camping trips we were able to squeeze in before the weather turned cold, one of which we had a down pour during the night.
My wife called me at work the Friday before XMAS and asked if we had a tree in the back yard, as she didn t recall of one. " No" , was my response. She said we do now and it s on the trailer! ......Almost made me cry, oh the pain after all that trouble repairing the thing! The roof now has 4 tears in the aluminium roof.
Now I have the thing (roof) off again and am trying to repair the aluminium but it ain t goin  so good. I m trying this stuff called " Alumiweld" , (which I m sure if done by someone familiar with it it would do the job), but I suck at it!
Does anyone have any ideas how to seal up the holes in the aluminium? OR, has anyone completly rebuilt the roof? If so, I would like to know what materials you used and how did you figure the construction. I have some thoughts but would like some suggestions.
 Thanks for your thoughts!

I rebuilt the top of our camper last summer. Check mine and my DW s website below. Now mine was made out of wood on the inside. Pine to be exact. And most of it was rotten . So just used cedar instead of pine when i put it back together. It sould like your frame for your roof is made out of aluminium. they do make a welding rod for aluminium. If you have a welder. They also make a aluminium solder. You use this same way you use solider for copper pipe. Just watch th etempature of the aluminium because it melts at a much lower temp. After i put my room back on the camper. A freind of mine owns a roofing co. I had him come over and we put a rubber roof on it. You just roll on some glue and then just roll out the rubber roof. Now the roofing material is black which with absobe heat. So we silver brited it Now it is silver and refleks the sun s ray back out instaed of absorbing them.

nichols4If your talking about the " skin"  being aluminum and you ve got 4 good size holes in it; Check out some of the RV catalogs for roof coatings or membrane coverings or else just remove the skin and replace it.
