Read alot on here about the Reflectix sheets covering the bunk ends to keep the camper cooler in summer heat.

My question is, could you use these in between the matress & bunk end wood as well, to equally keep the camper warmer in the cold months?

Somewhere in the old forums, it seems to me that someone (or several) had done this. My concern would be a moisture barrier, thus possibly causing mildew/mold against the wood.

My other question (aside from price) would have to do w/the " solar blankets"  to provide the same (or similar) type insulation.

 Gimme some feedback, gang...[:)]

ThunderRockKen, that s where my Reflectix bunk end covers live when they re not in use. I removed the mattress and cut the covers the same size as the base. This seems to work well and I ve never noticed any moisture being trapped under there. Got some pictures around here somewhere........

ThunderRockThe Reflextics works on two principles. First it has air pockets than provide the insulation. Second it has a reflective layer that works by reflecting radiant energy back toward it s source. When used as a bunk end cover when it s sunny it reflects the solar radiation and provides a little insulation. You can flip it over when it s cold and reflect the radiation (heat) from inside; back inside, plus you ve got the insulation value of the air trapped in it. Since it helps maintain the temp of the canvas at or near the inside temp condensation is reduced.
Under the mattress it provides insulation and when you put the shiny side up reflects your radiant heat back at you.

Solar or emergency blankets work on the reflective principle but offer no insulation. Another BIG minus using the Emergency blankets is they are only aluminum coated mylar and with use the aluminum rubs off on anything it contacts and is virtually immpossible to remove the stains.

As for a moisture barrier and mildew remember the bottom sides of most PU mattresses are vinyl. You can t get a better moisture barrier than that and I ve never heard about a big mildew problem on bunk end wood.

 ThunderRockT-Rock,

I asked this very question last year when I put the reflectix on under my matresses. The responses were that I wouldn t have a problem with moisture. I m glad you brought it up again... it will remind me to check it this year. I really didn t give it any thought after I got the responses last year.

JemJen24I ve been tempted to order mine too.  I m just trying to avoid having another thing to put up each time..

Has anyone had any success developing a way to keep the covers attached during transport?  It would be GREAT if they could be left on..
