This was originally posted on a thread in the Campfire Forum, but I wanted to make it a little more prominent.  We have trial members signing up everyday and I want to make all the information possible available to them.

The entire gang here at Pop Up Times (PUT) understands that not everyone is going to be comfortable with a pay site. Additionally folks may frequent several sites. We want this to be your favorite site and will try to provide benefits that more than make up for the fee. For first time visitors to this site, here is a little history on how it all began:

Several years ago PUT started a web site to advertise the magazine. It was envisioned as that, an advertising web site. People need to understand that we are not talking about Time magazine here. The PUT staff is limited to say the least.

The Webmaster who put the PUT site together (for those who may remember him, Webmaster Will) added a web based forum to allow pop up campers communicate with each other. The forums took off from the beginning, at times registering hundreds of posts a day. The boards went through several versions of software and several web hosting and server additions to keep up with the posting volume. It seemed the more bandwidth and servers PUT threw at the forum, the more the members ate it up.

As anyone who is involved in the Internet industry knows, bandwidth and servers cost money. It seemed that more and more PUT staff time and money was going to feed the web board.  During the same period of explosive growth, there was another thing happening - the collapse of " internet advertising" .  It was impossible to support the board with web advertising.

In November of last year a hard decision was made, PUT could no longer support the free forums. Two choices were possible, either switch to a pay/membership site or discontinue the forums entirely. The switch to a pay site was announced and it was received with less than enthusiasm from the members (I m trying to be nice here).

As you should be aware there are additional benefits to Arvee membership in addition to the forums including a 10% discount at the PUT web store as well as discounts from some other companies selling to pop up owners. Recently several people have saved money on the " Special Paha Que Promotion for Arvee Club Members" , some have saved twice the Arvee membership fee.

As PUT is a pay site, we could never expect someone to pay money for something they have never seen. We are happy to offer a free trial and if you click on the register button in the upper right corner you are directed to a page that offers this.

All of us at Pop Up Times want harmony with all other available Internet resources for pop up camping. We will not tolerate posts here that disparage any of the other resources out there.

As previously posted on this site, there are other free options available on the web.  The most common are:

Everyone needs to decide for him or herself where they are most comfortable. We hope that folks decide that is PUT.

moderator1It takes a very confident, very fairminded person to be willing to list " the competition"  on their website.  You re a good guy, Dave.  We ll be right here with you.

moderator1I have to say, I ve been on some of the other web sites listed above and this is the site I keep coming back to and calling " home" .  Everyone here feels like " family"  to me.  We may not all agree on something, but the floor is open for clean debate and maybe by hearing the other side of things, we get a glimpse into someone else s life or point of view.

I say BRAVO PopUpTimes and I ll continue to pay my membership dues year after year. [:)]

moderator1I couldn t imagine leaving PUT to go to any other internet camping message board.   PUT offers us all the best of everything, from the company of good people and friendly campers, to the administration that works so hard to make sure that we are all happy.

moderator1I think this is the friendliest campground on the internet.

moderator1Although PUT is the only site I pay for, it is still my favorite, most informative, friendliest, and the first one I check everyday.

I don t give a flip about the nominal membership fee.  The knowledge and bargains I have found here have MORE than made up for the tiny fee I was charged when I signed on.

moderator1Will the fee for the second year be the same as for the first?

moderator1I go to the other sites too...I m just one of those people who can never read enough about a subject I m interested in..but this is still my favorite...this feels like home even though I m still fairly new!  Was actually on here for a while back when it was free and it was the first place I wanted to join once we bought our PU!
