Hi all, don t know much about the brand so I told my SIL I d check in and get some experienced voices as I know some PUT folks have TrailManors.  She is looking at a used  97 TrailManor 6295 for 7K. Is it a good brand and good year for the make. Is 7K a fair price? She s also planning on towing it with a WindStar...I thought they were heavier than a regular popup but less than a TT. Salesperson is telling her she can tow it with her minivan...true...not true and it comes with electic brakes so she ll need a brake control for her van..is he talking about a sway bar?

mike4947

CamperrooWell you can start you search for info here: http://www.trailmanor.com/

and look up the price on it here: http://www.nadaguides.com/

also here s the place to find out what the Windstar is really capable of towing: http://www.trailerlife.com/
Remeber that towing weight also includes everthing in the Windstar but 150 pounds of the driver. That includes the hitch you have to add. All that gets taken away from the towing weight listed.

Those three ought to at least get you started.

As to the salesman who said " no problem"  you can tell when he s lying.....................................................His lips move.

CamperrooThe model number 6295 for the TrailManor is not correct. Model numbers would be more like 2518, 2619, 2720, 3023, 3124, etc. The model number indicates the length opened and closed. For example 2619, would be 26 ft opened and  19 ft closed. Model 2518 to 3023 may be towed with a minivan although with the 3023 you maybe pushing the upper limits of the minivan.

There is also a discussion group just for TrialManors at:

The $7K price seems reasonable but it also depends on the model, the options and condition. My guess at that price it is most likely at 2619 or possibly a 2720.

You definitely will want a Weight Distribution Hitch (WDH). Sway control would be debatable.

I have a 2619 which I tow with a Plymouth Grand Voyager. I have a WDH but no sway control. I ve had this set up for four years, over 8000 miles and it has been working fine. I have 1999 2619 with a dry weight of 2470lbs.

 CamperrooTake a look at this:

I agree with NE_Tmanor about the model number though....I have seen some slightly different, but never the one that you listed.

 Regards.

CamperrooYou must be looking at the TrailManor at Gary s RV Center. Their stock # is 6295. The TM is a model 2720 which is towable with a minivan. I know the previous owner of the TM, they traded the TM in and bought a motorhome about a year ago. Gary s was original selling the TM for $10,995 so the $7K is a good price.

 Thanks for the clarification Rick!!

Camperroothanks everyone, Rick you re right on the money, that s the trailer. She offered them 7,000 but he tried to push her to 9K - she said no way as it s been sitting around on their lot for quite awhile.  She had seen it last year at some point there.  For 9K she knows she could get a brand new loaded popup that she had also looked at.  She s going to talk to them again this weekend, but if they won t take the 7K she s going to go for the popup instead at another dealership.

One advantage the TM offers over a popup is a longer camping season, especially here in New England. Because of the hard shell and insulated walls, it is easy to heat the TM. I usually start camping early in April and end late October. I m planning on going camping March 28th providing no snow storms are predicted.

NE_TmanorI think she wants the TM because it would be easier to set up as she camps with her 3 kids without her husband, she camps only during the summer months.   Her oldest boy could help setup the popup if it came to that, but she does like the TM but won t go over the 7K.  Will have to see what happens when she negotiates again this weekend.   I hope it works out for her and the kids.

CamperrooCan you buy the TrailManor manual or is there a TrailManor manual.  It sounds like the dealership is pushing her to pay for an " orientation"  so that she knows how to use/setup the trailer properly.  Why should she have to pay for that...shouldn t that come with them selling that trailer even though it is used.  They are trying to tell her it s because they don t normally sell that brand.  I m starting to think she s getting the short end of things because she s dealing with this solo.  Either she s misinterpreting or someone is being a bit shifty.  I told her to drag her not so small husband with her and see if they still insist on charging her a hefty " orientation"  fee!!

I think that it is not good for them to " sell"  the set-up information!  If they charge no more than $20 and give her a complete owners manul at the same time it s a wash, and it only makes them " feel"  like she is paying for the orientation.
If she wants an owners manual, they are available through TrailManor for $20, and if the trailer doesn t have one, I would highly recommend it.  I would hate to see her pay for a manual and then NOT purchase the trailer though.
There are enough of us here that can answer any equipment and/or setup questions, that I don t think it is good for her pay for anything unless and until she actually buys the trailer.
I would be more than happy to send along digital photos of any process or procedures if she has any specific questions that she can t answer.  If it is just opening and closing instructions, have her contact Jimmy Davis at TrailManor, and he might fax those pages alone to get her started.  If that doesn t work, email me and I will see what I can do for you.

 Camperroo,

Don t let her pay the " orientation"  fee. I live in the area, I would be more than happy to give her an " orientation"  for free.

NE_Tmanorthanks everyone for your great offers of help...that s what makes this board so great.  My SIL decided not pursue her offer on the TM, she was very uncomfortable dealing with the salesman, she knew and strongly felt he was playing games with her.   She d rather deal with a dealership that sells new TM s and welcomes her business!
