whitestar505Whitestar, When are you going?  We will be there the first of June.  Our camping Collie will probably stay home this time, but the Chihuahua will be going with us.

One thing that is kind of confusing is they say your dog can not stay inside your Pop-Up or Tent at all because of the soft sides, even when you re there (they would have to stay in kennels except when you are walking them).  After talking to some employees and some people off the Disney board, it seems this is only enforced if there is a complaint with noise, etc.

whitestar505Disney is a class act in many ways.  I am interested in making the trip to Fort Wilderness someday with my family (that includes Miss Molly).... so let us know how the pet situation works out... how pleased you are with the kennel etc.... when you return from your trip.    And thanks ahead of time.

 Miss-TeriMiss-Teri,

Received this over the weekend. You may be interrested...

 Q. Can you tell me more about the Walt Disney World? kennels?

 A. The Walt Disney World? kennels are located at all four of our Theme Parks. You ll find them adjacent to the Magic Kingdom? Park Transportation and Ticket Center, at the entrance to Epcot?, at the entrances to the Disney-MGM Studios and Disney s Animal Kingdom? Park, and near the entrance to Disney s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground.

Kennel fees are $6 per day and/or $9 per night per animal for Walt Disney World Resort Guests ($6 per day or $11 per night for non-Walt Disney World Resort Guests). Guests will be required to visit their pets at least once daily. Dog owners will need to walk their dogs at least twice daily (three times daily for puppies). The Epcot kennel offers a dog walking service for $2.50 per walk. Resort reservations do not guarantee a kennel space for your pets and you should call for availability. Though our kennels were designed for pets such as dogs and cats, we also accept birds, ferrets, small rodents, and non-venomous snakes, if in their own carriers. The kennels are not set up to accommodate exotic animals. All dogs and cats staying at a Walt Disney World kennel are required to have a certificate of vaccination signed by a licensed veterinarian (rabies, parvo, DHLP, Bordetella for dogs; rabies, FPRC for cats).

 Q. Can you tell me more about keeping my pet at Disney s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground?

 A. Specific areas of Disney s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground have been made available to Guests with pets. These are full hook-up campsites. There is a $5.00 per day pet charge. (This is a per day, per site charge only, not per pet.) Sorry, Guests in tents and pop-up campers may not keep pets at their site - they must be kenneled.

The guidelines for Guests with pets are as follows:

Pets will be restricted at all times to the designated pet loops during the Guest s stay.
Pets must be walked on the pet path along the canal only. The owner is also responsible for picking up and disposing after their pet.
Pets may not roam freely in their campsites. The pet must be kept on a leash when being walked or tethered when on the site. This tether can be no longer than 8 feet.
Guests may not leave pets unattended in their site, which causes them to bark or whine, disturbing other Guests.
Pets will not be allowed on pargos (electric carts).

Pet owners not following these policies will be asked to kennel their pet.

 Teri,

It s a little confusing, but you have added emphasis that is not there.  Here is a cut from the Disney site:

I have added bold to the area in question.  The term " at all"  does not exist.  I have camped there many times (both pop up and tent) and the question of a pet is a non issue for the staff.  If you are on the site, the pet can be on the site - inside or out.

You can not leave a pet unattended in a tent or pop up, but we keep Natasha in the pop up at night, every night.

I really wish they would make this a little clearer in their wording, it does confuse a lot of people.

Miss-Teri

tim5055Ah, thank you.  That makes me feel much better.  I figured I wouldn t have had much leverage with saying, " Well, some employee - have no idea of her name - on the phone told me so..."

Sorry to have caused any confusion.  I could have sworn somewhere I saw that pets are not allowed to stay in any type of RV alone, and that in soft sides they weren t allowed to stay even with the owner there.  I ve looked at so many Ft Wilderness sites lately, though, that my head is spinning...  [&:]  (Spinning heads will confuse anyone!  Nothing to be sorry about, it is a confusing part of their web site.

To be quite honest, most of their rules are only enforced when someone complains.  Even with a no campfire policy, I have seen some campfires there that would put the Aggies to shame.

Everything there is on a kind of don t ask, don t tell policy.

Just go and have a great time!

Well, I have to say - for what they lack in clarity on their web site they more then make up for in hospitality and fun.  It is to the point now that we spend as much, if not more time in the campground than the parks.
