Dixie Chicks, take this........ comments from Dennis Miller....

TRYING TO HELP - by DENNIS MILLER
 http://www.hollywood-hero.us/trying_to_help.htm

All the rhetoric on whether or not we should go to war against Iraq has got
my insane little brain spinning like a roulette wheel. I enjoy reading
opinions from both sides but I have detected a hint of confusion.

As I was reading the paper recently, I was reminded of the best advice
someone ever gave me. He told me about the KISS method (Keep It Simple,
Stupid!) so, with this as a theme, I d like to apply this theory for those
who don t quite get it. My hope is that we can simplify things a bit and
 recognize a few important facts.

Here are 10 things to consider when voicing an opinion on this Important
 issue:

 1) Between President Bush and Saddam Hussein ... Hussein is the bad guy.

 2) If you have faith in the United Nations to do the right thing keep this
in mind, they have Libya heading the Committee on Human Rights and Iraq
heading the Global Disarmament Committee. Do your own math here.

 3) If you use Google search and type in " french military victories,"  your
reply will be " did you mean french military defeats?"

 4) If your only anti-war slogan is " no war for oil,"  sue your school
district for allowing you to slip through the cracks and robbing you of the
 education you deserve.

 5) Saddam and Bin Laden will not seek United Nations approval before they
 try to kill us.

 6) Despite common belief, Martin Sheen is not the president. He plays one on
 t.v.

 7) Even if you are anti-war, you are still an " infidel!"  and Bin Laden wants
 you dead, too.

 8) If you believe in a " vast right-wing conspiracy"  but not in the danger
that Hussein poses, quit hanging out with the Dell computer dude.

 9) We are not trying to liberate them.

 10) Whether you are for military action or against it, our young men and
women overseas are fighting for us to defend our right to speak out. We all
need to support them without reservation.

Gamecock CamperI hope you don t mind if I forwarded your 10 thoughts to my family and friends! It says alot! Thanks!

Gamecock CamperI just received this from a friend through email.  Gary, I also sent it to as many people that I know. Only wish I had the email addresses of all the people in the world, because I wouldn t hesitate one second to send it out to everyone!

Gamecock CamperI don t trust much on the internet, nor do I believe dogmatically what is written truly is by the stated author, in part or whole.  Anyone can post anything on the internet; sadly, it is to this end many dogmatically believe verbatim what they read online.  Hence, propaganda flourishes more rampantly than ever through this electronic age.  A foundation I believe upon which many of the reverent opposers & protestors against the U.S. actions in Iraq stand.

The link given above takes you to a web page which states a disclaimer as to Dennis Miller actually being the author.  The actual author of recognition is W.Wayne Schields.  Yet, I enjoyed it, nonetheless.

On the Dr. Laura Schlessinger web site, someone posted this link to an essay by Cindy Osborne.  Dr. Laura s staff scrutinizes all material with a fine-toothed comb before posting on her web site.  Therefore, I have a bit more confidence the author & contents are genuine, to a certain degree.  Enjoy:

I have no idea who this Cindy Osborne is or how she came about the supposed educations of the listed actors in her essay.  I have a feeling the credentials, or the lack thereof, are over-simplified by design.  Yet, her argument is overwhelmingly profound & very eloquently sheds poignant light upon those who should adhere to or maintain certain career paths.

 Peace be with you all.

Gamecock CamperSomething bothered me about this statement " ...If you have faith in the United Nations to do the right thing keep this in mind, they have Libya heading the Committee on Human Rights and Iraq heading the Global Disarmament Committee."

Here is the link which shows who is actually on the UN s Human Rights committee:
 http://www.unhchr.ch/html/hchr/hchrbio.htm

Here is the link indicating who is actually on the board of trustees & the director of the UN s Disarmament committee:
 http://www.unidir.org/html/en/board_trustees.html

 http://disarmament.un.org/advisoryboard/cv.htm

These above links show neither country, Libya or Iraq, has anything to do with the aforementioned UN committees.

I have no problem with whether you voice " for"  or " against" .  However, it bothers me tremendously when that voiced opinion is mere contradiction & not based upon fact(s) or a sound value system.  Here is a book which will lay out all the facts in historical content:

 Peace be with you all.

Miss-Teri

Gamecock CamperActually, Ozzy s family is spelled " Osbourne" .  Kelly is the daughter they show on the series (looked it up).  I think there is an older daughter that they don t show - since I don t watch it, I m not sure of her name - could be Cindy.

Regardless, it is an excellent article!

Danusmom

Gamecock CamperThank you, " Miss-Teri" .  I m not sure how I came about confusing " Osborne"  with " Osbourne" .  Nonetheless, I edited my post to eschew obfuscating sir names.

 Peace be with you all.

Gamecock CamperWell, in the interest of complete and full information--

Quotethey have Libya heading the Committee on Human Rights

While Libya does not head the committee, they do have a seat on it

[link=http://193.194.138.190/html/menu2/2/chrmem.htm]Membership List, Committee on Human Rights[/link]  (#26 ON THE LIST)

Libia has been a member off and on beginning in 1976

I havn t found the member list yet for " the Global Disarmament Committee" , but will keep looking.

missteri

Gamecock CamperOK, unless I am missing something, Libya DOES chair the committee starting March 2003:

 http://washingtontimes.com/upi-breaking/20030120-032236-7593r.htm

And, Iraq is chairing the UN disarment conference to be held this spring:

 http://www.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/meast/01/28/sprj.irq.disarmament.conference/

Danusmom

Gamecock CamperWow!  I wonder why CNN was able to make those reports; yet, I wasn t able to find the same information on the UN s own web site.  I understand the fairness of rotation.  However, doesn t it make more sense to have those representatives coming from countries who actually comply with the commissions  own guidelines?  As promient an organization as the UN is, more & more they are sounding like all fluff & no substance.

 Peace be with you all.

garym053

Gamecock CamperThey (the UN) ARE all FLUFF and NO substance! Iraq s been firing missles at us that the UN told them they had to destroy 12 years ago, Hans Blitz simply forgets to report findings to the UN that are in HIS written report, the UN Telling Iraq " we ll give you this much time"  " well, okay, THIS much time" , " Okay, now THIS much time, but that s final" , " well okay maybe we need to give them MORE time"
In my opinion, the UN is completely irrelevant!

Garrett

Gamecock CamperThe chairmanships of those committees rotate on I believe a monthly schedule.  It was recently Iraq turn to chair the committee on disarmament, but the last I heard the passed.  It rotates amount the members alphabetically.
