this was an " only in Miami"  scenario....

There I was, stopped at a red light and the fellow behind me is honking his horn and waving his hands wildly.  Between his tinted windows and mine I couldn t see anything and had no idea who that lunatic was.

Next, he sticks his head out of the window and hollers, " Are you Sandykayak?"   By then my head is out of my window, " YES.  Who are you?"

 " PAPASO.

Went through the light, pulled into a gas station and we got out and hugged (hugging everyone is very latin).

" How did you know it was me?"  I asked.    He said, " First I saw the PUT sticker, then IRV2 sticker, then the " I d rather be kayaking"  one.  But the final identifier was the " THELMA AND LOUISE LIVE   decal.

The funniest thing is that when Doug (Giffster) posted his note about having not being around the site lately, Papaso responded and I almost sent him an email.

Turns out he s a " cubanazo"  from " Joisey."    I m half English/half Ecuadorean raised in Venezuela.

A " cubanito"  would mean a " little cuban"   (" ito"  being a diminutive) but Cubans (and Venezuelans, but not quite as " bad" ) tend to be loud and boisterous.   Hence the " azo"  suffix.

Hey, there s even a book called Cubanazo Redneck - they re the Cubans who wear cowboy boots and go to Country Western bars.

I invite popuppers in South Florida to email me and perhaps we can have a get together in the south end of the state.  With the price of gas, I ve just reduced the distance I m willing to go for a weekend!  It s got to be on or near the water and have electricity for the a/c.  Long Key fits the bill nicely.

sandykayakHey Sandy it was very nice to meet you too. The actual order of seeing the stickers was Thelma and Louise first, rather be kayaking second, PUT third and finally irv2, believe it or not when I read the Thelma and Louise you came to mind.
We ll be down at Long Key the weekend of 5/16. Funny but I never thought of myself as a Cubanazo just a good old Jersey boy (pronounced Joisey) but in Miami I guess I am one.
 Hugs and HAPPY CAMPING
