I noticed last year that we had water in the front trunk, but just thought we got it in there some how.

Then this year it is there again.  Took everything out cleaned it made sure it was dry and put the stuff back in.  Today popped up the camper to start cleaning it and needed a screwdriver from the trunk and when I got it, it sits just inside the outside side door, there was water all around.

Since the battery had not been charged and I did not hook up the power, I used a flashlight.  Well didn t need one too bad because the top of the side door had light coming in all around it.  With all the rain that we have been having, we now know where the water in coming in at.

The side at the door is still wet, and swollen, up to where the door curves around going up on each side, and the back wall where it is connected to the camper is swollen also.

Has anyone ever had this problem?  Do you think there would be a chance that they would count it as a mfr. defect and fix it?  If you had the problem, did you just fix it yourself?

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

NCSunshineYep another one of those wonderful Coleman Designs [:(] Those doors warp on occasion and leak. I would take it to the dealer and point out the fact the door is leaking and it should be covered under warranty, along with all of the necessary repairs. BTW I noticed today mine has warped to where it has the potential to leak, now I have to deal with it, not under warranty.[:@]

NCSunshineI had the same problem with my Avalon. What I found was that some of the items I packed in the trunk ended up crowded against the door to much putting pressure against the door and slightly bending the tab on the lock.  I took the tab off the back of the lock and bent it a little so the door would close tightly again and then I cut a piece of 1/4 inch plywood just big enough to go across the opening of the door inside the storage compartment but small enough to remove it through the side doors and not have to open the top door to get it out. Now things packed in the storage trunk can t push against the side doors and I haven t had that problem again. I did have water getting in another way this last season though. The plastic hinge for the top cover on mine started to crack so I got a replacement from the dealer which was made of aluminum. When installing it I had to just drill out the rivets on the plastic hinge and run a bead of caulk on the door and rivet the new aluminum hinge on. I used silicone caulk which I found out from expansion and contraction came loose on part of the joint. I looked several times trying to find where the water was getting in before I finally found it had been leaking in under the edge of the new hinge. I drilled out all of the poprivets again and used a gutter sealant type caulk this time that my dealer recomended. So far no leaks, hope it stays that way. It is not that nice going camping and opening up the storage trunk to find that the sleeping bags and everything else is wet.
