OKay what is a camping mat for? I didn t know what ya ll kept talking about and I looked at them in the PUT store. They look like carpet to me.

 ShirleyTShirley -
They go in front of your PU (or cabin) door under the awning to keep dirt from finding it s way into the PU (or cabin).  They also make a nice clean surface in the front porch area of the PU (or cabin).
Here is a description of the one s for sale in the PUT store.

QuoteThese weather proof mats are made of recycled plastic gimp which means they are practically maintenance free. To clean just hose off and let dry for 15 minutes. Beautifully designed they can be reversed to show either the dark or light side. Available in 2 sizes 6  x 8  and 9  x 12 .

Red neff Barchettathanks for the explanation! I couldn t for the life of me figure out why you would put carpet outside [:o]

ShirleyTI have had carpet outside my PU for 7 years.  Now I am replacing the carpet with a mat.  I used the carpet for the same reason, to keep the dirt out of the trailer and to give the AAR a more finished look.

ShirleyTGuess I can think about getting a camping mat for my porch when I get one built

ShirleyTWe have been using somthing called " soft-styles"  foam mats.  You have probably seen them in Costco or Home Depot.  These 2 foot by 2 foot squares are about mats are about 1/2 inch thick.  They go together like a puzzle with serated edges on all four sides.

I know, it is not what is usually seen but they have been great on cement pads, and when the ground is mucky and uneven.  Last Labor day we were at Virginia Beach when it was storming.  We had the screen porch up and the mats set up.
All around us became a puddle and everyone within a reasonable distance was underwater or in the mud.  To our suprise, these guys....floated....  kinda cool.  Although a slight amount of water spurted up when we stepped on them they simply set into the mud, avoiding us tracking the mucky mess into the PU.

When it is time to put them away we spray them with a hose and wipe them down for easy stowage.  They don t absorb water so it drys off quickly.

We have recently seen them in multiple colors.  Folks apparently use them for excercise mats or pick-up truck beds or floors or other multiple purposes.  We did get some curious looks as we set up, but it only became a great way to share a beer with the neighbor.

Anyway, we may someday break down and get the conventional mat, but for the meantime,....it feels great on the toes....
