cooncreekersWhat few dishes we have, we wash outside with a tub of water heated over the fire. We mostly use paper plates, so they go into the fire.[8D]

cooncreekersI do the dishes inside. Wash them in the tub, rinse in the sink and put them in a dishrack on the table, with a towel under it. After dumping out the wash water and cleaning the sink, I move the pan over and let it drain on the edge.

For state park camping we are *considering* paper plates this year, but, there are certain foods that I don t like to serve on paper plates- steak, pasta being two. We also eat a lot of soup while spring camping. I love my green speckled enamel plates and bowls.

cooncreekersWe bought a set of plastic dishes (plates, cups, etc) and use real silverwear.  It just takes up less space than keeping a stack of paper stuff everywhere.

I do the dishes inside after every meal.  We don t have hot water, so I boil water over the sink, mix in some cold water, and I m set to go!

We use one of those huge OZARKA bottles for our gray water.  My husband s idea, and a really good one at that!  It holds a ton of water, is the perfect heigth, and best of all, was FREE.  He simply took an old waterhose and cut a 1« foot piece off of it which runs into the Ozarka bottle.  When the bottle is full, we put it in the car and drive it to the dump station.  Since the nozzle (head) of the bottle is so small, it NEVER splashes.  Works like a charm!

One more great thing about it is that, when camping alone, I can see when it s about half way full.  I ll be able to lift it myself at this point and take it to the dump station.

cooncreekersI only do dishes inside late at night, it is so much easier to do them on a table outside and have lots of room. i have a tale we set up in the AAR but as long as the weather is nice I use the picnic table.  If we were in a commercial park where you are twenty feet from the people next to you and there is no privacy I might reconsider the picnic table.  My dishes go into a Rubbermaid box and do not get put away in cupboards so I do not have to take them inside when I am done.

cooncreekersI ve always washed outside.  I use a coffee percolator to heat water, add a little cold once I pour in it my 2 dishpans.  We have 2 Greatland roll-up tables and a dish drainer set up along with the dishpans so there is plenty of room.  We use paper plates most of the time with the plastic holders.

Our pop-up had the pump sink so it wasn t good for washing dishes.  Now that we have the tt and a water heater, etc.  I may move to washing indoors.

cooncreekersWe do all cooking and washing outside the camper. Gray, Grey, Black Dishwater, and any other color water is dumped into one of those fancy little dumpwater  (blue totes) things on wheels and emptied at the dump station.
We do camp with bears, so no food in pop-up or tents!

garym053I usually do the dishes outside on the picnic table - on the end.  I don t worry about spilled water (I m also a messy washer), and since I dry/put away right away, the table isn t tied up for long.  Ususally I heat up the water on the campfire, or if one isn t available I heat it up inside.  Disposable plates/silverware are OK, but what about the pans, cooking utensils, etc.  We also use regular coffee mugs and sippy cups for the kids.  I don t mind cleaning up, but I really don t enjoy cooking while camping.  Wish I did, there s just not enough space, even when I m outside.  By the end of the summer I usually have a cooking " groove"  going on, though!!  garym053I just toss the dirty dishes in a bag and bring them to the shower with me in the morning.

 Why am I not surprised?[8D]

cooncreekersc creekers, I m with you!  DH claims I m not doing dishes, I m playing in water!  If I did them inside, I d have to bring along a wet vac to help clean up the puddles!  We (DH does  em too) do all our dishes and cooking outside.  I m amazed at just how little time we spend IN the camper.  Even when it s a cold and rainy day, the coffee s hot and we re under the awning enjoying the view.

garym053gosh, now i don t feel so guilty for not bothering to hook up the water connection.  I use Liquid Joy - it says biodegradable on the bottle - and yes, I do water the plants.

I feel moderately guilty after reading some of the tirades on this list but, " How come the (florida) state park rangers who will go beserk if you have a can of beer in view or (gasp) hang a hammock to a tree (I even paid an extra ten bucks for the " tree huggers"  protection straps), don t say diddly squat about campers who drain their popups straight onto the ground?"

There aren t any signs either.

I learned that other popuppers are not at all interested (or pleased) when you try and " educate"  them about Florida Grey Water laws and blue containers.[&:]

cooncreekersI do dishes inside if the weather is bad, or else I do them in the AAR where we set up the dishpan and drainer.  I use a large coffee  urn  for a hot water heater.  If it s nice, I do them outside.   We have the blue jug from Walmart for our gray water, and dump it in the campground dumpstation, or if on our own property, just let the hose lay out on the ground.

garym053We do all our dish washing (and cooking) outside, too.  All but the youngest 2 have a part in it!  I wash, the 2 older kids dry, I put away and dh takes care of the water when we are done.  It all goes into the gray water bucket and gets dumped wherever the CG tells us to dump it. [:)]
We ve also stayed at some private CGs that have sinks set up specifically for dish washing....if our site is close, we use that.  Or we ll dump our dishwater there after we re done washing them at our site.

cooncreekersi do my dishes inside...but i have a galvanized bucket for dishes only, i heat the water in that, rinse them in the sink and put them in the dish thing...no problem.  always  done my dishes in a galvanized bucket...just in different spots depending on what i am camping in....and if what the weather is like outside...like if i can let them drain on the picnic table if its not too windy (blowing grit and stuff on them)

cooncreekersI usually do the dishes inside.   I wash the dishes and put them in a dish pan and then rinse them and put them in a strainer to dry.  The strainer is placed on top of the stove with the plastic base positioned to drip over the sink.  We use paper plates but do wash the pans and plastic ware most of the time.
