cooncreekersThings have changed over the years.  We bought plates etc when we first started.  Always washing outside, heating the water on the stove.  Sometimes we camped at places that had dishwashing sinks at the bathhouses.  As time went on we limited the # of real dishes and usued paper or plastic for ease of cleanup.  We were able to cut way back on dish washing.  Finally, we added additional cooking utinsils so that if we really wanted to for a weekend, we had enough to get us through and we would bring the stuff home to wash.

as far as grey water, when we first started either we did not know better or the rules were different but we used the dish water to put out the fire at night, now we carry it to the dumpstation or outside sink.

For hot water, we use a 36-cup coffee pot that projects over the sink

OMG!!!!   You are brilliant!!!  I never thought of this!!!  No more waiting close to an hour to boil a pot of water![:D]

cooncreekersWe do both-or should I say I [: (]do both.  If theres not much-inside.  Other wise, we have one of the Coleman Kitchens from tenting days w/ the sink-add a dishpan full of hot water from kettle on the outside stove, and a five gallon bucket to catch the grey water (DH s job to haul that to the sewer connect or station!) and done it is![:D]

Quoteya know, as long as i`ve been hanging around here, i`ve never heard of anyone doing what we do- which is wash dishes outside. we have the metal roll-up table located just underneath the outside shower. we have added a longer hose, and along with the 2 plastic dishtubs left over from tent camping days, and a wire dish drainer, we think it works much better for us anyway than trying to balance the dishes on virtually NO counter space. also, i admit to being a very messy washer, i sling water everywhere! this is so nice to not worry about getting water on the floor, my bed, or the tenting. am i the only one?

I think I can probably count the number of times we have washed dishes inside on a hand.  DW likes the dishwashing on camping trips - I do it...outside.

cooncreekersI just take enough dishes/utensils/etc so that I don t have to wash them while camping.  Pile them up (after rinsed off, of course), then toss them into the dishwasher when I get home.

Guess I m lucky it s just the dog and I.

 Cheers

cooncreekersIf I wanted to wash dishes outside, I d still be camping in our tent![;)]  Being able to wash dishes inside, in a sink with running hot water is just one of the reasons I LOVE our camper.  [:D]

garym053Never said I didn t have hot running water when washing the dishes outside, that s what we use the outside shower for.

cooncreekers

garym053ditto, thats my point, we set up the table under the outside shower faucet, nice hot running water, no mess on floor [:D]

For state park camping we are *considering* paper plates this year, but, there are certain foods that I don t like to serve on paper plates- steak, pasta being two. We also eat a lot of soup while spring camping. I love my green speckled enamel plates and bowls.
We camp exclusively in SP s, and use nothing but paper plates. We bring 2 types; the el cheapo kind for things like sandwiches and the heavy duty, coated variety for everything else. And those coated ones work very well! One of our camping staples is spaghetti and meatballs, and even with a ton of red sauce you never have to worry about a plate falling apart. We also use the coated bowls for cereal, and even then we ve had no problems. The beauty of this is when you re all done you just drop them in the fire and there s no garbage. But I can t vouch for how they d work for soup though, because we ve never used them for that purpose.

 Goose,
I have a feeling this summer your going to find out, how they get done!!!
Don t worry I ll be happy to remind her of your post! [:)]

I think you will be carrying them to the shower just like me![&:]

jawilsonWe have our dish washing station set up on the back of the trailer at the shower.  We have two dish pans (one for washing and the other to catch the rinse).

DH sometimes does the dishes inside; if it rains we will probably do the dishes inside.  I prefer to do them outside but will not if it is raining.

cooncreekersThere is just the 2 of us and I try to use paper as much as possible. We do wash dishes inside and I put a plastic tablecolth over the bed so it doesn t get splashed and to hold the dirty dishes. It works well and all the dishes and utensils are inside for the night.
