We have a (gasp) 1,000 watt generator and I have been searching in vain for a 950 watt (max.) toaster oven.  The lowest wattage I have found on a toaster oven is 1,150 watts.  I ve found some toaster s, but no toaster oven s.  I have sent e-mail s to a few manufacturer s (Black and Decker for one), but have not heard back yet.  We don t eat much that requires a microwave or we would go that route.
Just wondered if anyone has found a decent toaster oven with low wattage.  Although, if it would take 8 minutes to slightly brown a slice of bread or bagel, then I guess I ll stick to buttering the bread and throwing it in a pan like a grilled cheese sandwich and keep the generator off, ha.

Red neff BarchettaWell I found you a 950 watt toaster oven!!

Red neff BarchettaAs Chuck S. found out the hard way, calling it a 950 watt oven doesn t mean it only draws 950 watts. That s the heat output. The electrical input can be much, much higher. Most 900 watt heating units actually draw 1200 - 1300 watts.

Take a look at the data plate for the actual wattage draw before buying.

Red neff BarchettaShirley - Thanks for the laugh!  Having Hello Kitty s face looking up at us while we are about to take a bite would be a little scary.

Larry - Thank you friend!  I will be looking into the 2 that Avanti makes.  Don t know why my searches missed those.  If they fit the bill, either one of them is perfect!

Mike - Thanks for the info. and tip!  I know that a 1000 watt generator does not put out 1000 watts and that a 950 watt item (including getting the item started) is about the most it can handle.  I will e-mail Avanti tonight and hopefully get a reply.  Otherwise, I will find  them in a store near us before getting one home.  Maybe I ll have to go with Shirley s find after all, lol.

Red neff BarchettaThey get you coming and going. The generator won t pull what the advertised rating is and the equipment you want to power draws more than the advertised rating.
I take it yours is a Mitsubishi that s the only one I could find rated at a continuious 950 watts all the other around 1K ones I ve seen range from 600w to 900w continuious.

 Red neff BarchettaSuezyque -
You are amazing!  The funny part is that I actually considered titleing this thread;  " Suezyque - Help!" .  You came to mind when I was having trouble finding what I was looking for.  I m concerned the 12 volt oven would be too wimpy and take 40 minutes to melt some grated cheese or toast some bread.  Unfortunately, they don t give any info.
The 3-way LP stove on the other hand looks promising.  I hadn t found this one, but did look at another one that looked pretty cheesey.  I wonder if you can get one without the burners?  Since the PU has 5 and our portable Coleman stove has another 3!
I guess I will now head in the direction of an LP oven.  I ll start searching.
Seriously, how do you find these things, ha?
Looks like the generator will remain quiet except to re-charge a battery on a longer trip.

 Mike -
Just as you suspected, the Avanti stoves actually have a running wattage of 1,250 watts (I got a reply this morning).  I ve only used the Yamaha generator twice in the year that I ve had it and forgot the technical s on it.  Once was because of my own stupidity when I pulled out the brake cable when un-hooking.  Otherwise it wouldn t have been needed that time either.  I looked up my generator, and found that its continuos wattage output is only 850 watts.  I got an incredible deal on it at the time or I probably would have bought a Honda.
On a similiar note, the new 1K watt Yamaha " invertor/generator"  looks pretty cool!  Its continuos output is 900 watts and it only sends out as high a load as is needed (I think like the Honda s).  Looks like the weight, run time, and decibal output are the same as mine though.

Red neff BarchettaHow about this little puppy!

Imagine, a 0.9 cu. ft., 900 watt microwave and an 800 watt toaster all in one compact, convenient package. The microwave features Electronic Touch Control, Side Swing Door Open, and Auto Cook for everything from popcorn and pizza to vegetables and casseroles. With Auto Defrost for meat, poultry and fish, 3-Stage Cooking, Add a Minute, Kitchen Timer and Child Lock features, the Toast  N Wave has everything you d expect from a Kenmore microwave with the added bonus of a toaster!

Red neff BarchettaWay to go Suezyque!  I am heading out now and will actually be going by a Sears store so I can stop and see if they have this one in stock.  If I get it, I ll post after I confirm that the generator can handle it.  Like I stated earlier, 900 watts is pushing it.
I feel like I should buy you one also for all of your help, lol.  Unless of course you want the " Hello Kitty"  one.

Suezyque

Red neff BarchettaGifts aren t necessary, what I would like is a nice man to go camping with!!
 Can you arrange that?

ShirleyT

Red neff BarchettaBUT JEEFFFFF!! Think of what a conversation piece the Hello Kitty Toaster oven would be! [:D]

mike4947

Red neff BarchettaAnd don t stop there. There s Hello Kitty sheets and blankets, drapes, and all the other stuff. Even switch plate covers. You could have the first Hello Kitty theme PU.[:D] I ll bet if you searched you could even find a Kitty receiver cover for the TV.

 Red neff BarchettaSuezyque -
Thank you, thank you!  The search is over.  Your search engines and methods are much better than mine, that s for sure.
Regarding a camping man.  I m surprised you haven t searched one out yet, lol.  I do know of one such camping fanatical man from our silly camping group.  He owns his own company, loves live music (my wife and I hooked up with him in S. F. for a Dixie Dregg s show in January and will be seeing Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits) with him in the future), is well spoken, enjoys good spirits and food, absolutely loves to PU, and most importantly; is hilarious.  Damn, after reading that you d think I wanted him, lol.  Seriously, he s a great guy but very busy between camping trips and besides, he s waaay over on this side of our little island we call home.  You know him as Surf Cal and he ll probably t.p. my PU with some septic-safe RV toilet paper at our next rally when he see s this.
Anyway, I went into Sears and they had one out-of-the-box and an in-store 10% discount going.  I spent a total of just under $68.00 so I m happy.  The sales-woman is even going to call me if they come across the box so I ll have it for transporting the oven.  When not using it in the PU, I ll use it at work so it s a tax write-off, ha.  Just kidding Uncle Sam!
The generator handled the toaster with no problems at all as the max. output for the toaster is 800 watts.  The toaster slots are nice and wide for bagels too.  The only setting that was trouble for the generator when using the microwave was the " popcorn"  setting.  It actually worked, but with every bit of effort that it could muster.  That must be the highest output of 900 watts.  All other microwave settings such as " potato"  (leave that " e"  alone Mr. Quayle), " frozen foods" , low, med., & high all worked with no problems.  The oven is a little larger than I wanted, but it fits in a perfect out-of-the-way spot in the PU as I tried this afternoon.  We won t use it every trip anyway, probably just 3-night ers or longer.
Thanks again and don t go looking for a man because then you ll end up with the wrong one.  Happy camping!

Shirley & Mike - You 2 are killing me!  A " Hello Kitty"  PU.  Now that would beat tacky lights or that orange PU someone found on e-bay as the gaudiest PU for sure, lol.
Thanks for all of your help also!

Suezyque

Red neff BarchettaI have tried a Google search for a camping man, but alas I always come up empty handed![:(][:(]
So glad the unit is going to fill the bill.  You even got a deal on it, way to go!
I really like the Hello Kitty stuff myself.  That oven is just the cutest thing going!!
