I ve got an 8  PU and have an auxiliary battery next to the LP gas, so I don t think I could put a storage box of sorts in front of them (could I?)

I was wondering about one of those swing-away storage boxes behind the popup - I know, megabucks plus the cost of a new hitch receiver.

My main thought is that this would break all the rules of keeping the weight up front and is totally a bad idea.   comments?

I saw that one fella (on the PUX list, I think) has a storage box on top of the PU, but I have a kayak rack there....plus I think it might void the warranty.  I believe the rack I used for the kayak is approved.

sandykayakI d be careful of putting much weight that far back in a trailer, especially one that s as short as an 8U, because you ll be unloading the tongue and moving the weight to a bad place.

sandykayakSandy, you answered your own question. You might find one or two hearty souls who have blissfully gotten away with hauling stuff off the back of a PU, but the other 99.9999% will disagree.
Notice how none of the receiver manufacturers offer a rear PU/TT hitch? They offer ones for the front of TV s and the rear of CLass A & C motorhomes. In other words for any application they deam as safe they sell.

 sandykayakSandy,

Put this question to Caped CODger.  They have the rear of their camper rigged up for storage.

sandykayakI can just see me unhitching and the tongue going vertical while poor " Louise"  sits on her box/butt[:D]

but, what the heck, i emailed caped codger anyway.  thanks
