If you are bored how about a post about the news from Turkey. You have not posted news from there for a while.

I hope I am not irritating everyone on the board by posting frequently ? I am trying to add some salt and pepper  when I post and considering that this is the campfire room and not the general one , in any case if it is too much just let me know privately ......
 
 As for the news from Turkey, nothing new. Some of the equipment went thru, some are being loaded back into the ships.
 
 The really good news is, US had rented a lot of industrial locations and worked hard and fast to make them get ready or upto their standards, so a few small towns have now completed industrial areas .
 
 Bad news is some people are saying now Turkey has to get close to Iran and Syria to stand against USA. Sheeesssshhhhhh, why do you guys thing I live in Canada. I never understood the mentality of some of us have. They are even talking about if there would be stiffer resistance when USA attacks Turkey. Yup, when, not if, quite a few radical ones we have got .......
 
 Anyways, let me know if I am spamming the group and I will cease and desist.

personally, birol, I like it when you post " updates"  like you do.  Didn t you say you get the newspapers from over there?  What better way to find out the feeling of how they think and feel.  I know each newspaper has it s own " feel"  - wether liberal or consertive, but it s still nice to get it passed on by somebody that we trust!

Hey I just reported the 11 Soldiers being kidnapped by your soldiers and the Captain beating up the germans, what else do you want from me ? It is not everyday that we get news like that [8D][8D][8D][8D]

I read the report about the soldiers. I saw it in the news and wondered if your Turkey newspaper had anything about it.

They are very very upset about the situation. What is released is that, Americans suspected Turks of plotting to kill the Governer of Kerkuk (I hope I got the city right). Thus they raided the place and all the secret documents they had.
 
 Americans were very lucky that their commander recognized the allies, and ordered the soldiers (They were all special forces trained ones, like the one who roughed up 4 german soldiers) to drop their weapons. As he was ordering his people to drop their weapons, Americans actually fired a few rounda at them. The thinking is they wanted a masscare or a gun fight or were expecting it. Anyways, of course our soldiers were made to wear masks, unfortunately slapped on the face and handled very roughly.
 
 After two days they were released with no explanation. Later I think your vice president sent a letter saying, it was a sad incident, but no apology and no explanation was offered for why the soldiers were taken away in such a way, or handled in such a rough way when they showed no resistance.
 
 Even though there is an anti american sentiment common these years in Turkey, usually USA is treated and thought of an old reliable ally, and this coming from them did not help many to feel close to USA.
 
 
 One thing to keep in mind kind is,  USA is afraid of Terror threats from IRAQ and has decided to operate in IRAQ, and Turkey suffers from the same threat and is only trying to protect its own interests and soveregneity. Iraq has a very long Border with Turkey ...... and a war has been going on for years, and even though what USA did doesn t help Turkey s interests, Turkey tried to cooperate as much as they could.
 
 I hope such incidents will not repeat, as knowing the mentality, next time there will be resistance and escalation [>:]
 
 So, this is what the newspapers said about the incident ... and I think it reflects the common thinking, and probably even waters it down ....

I never knew why the Turkey soldiers were picked up. Our soldiers are pretty nervous over there. I do not blame them for not taking any more chances than they have to. I sure hope that there is not any more confortations between our troops and Turkeys.

I don t think anybody except the command of chain involved knows why they did it. They probably don t want Turkish presence and tried to make a point of showing their dislike this way.
