DH just e-mailed me and told me he just noticed our hitch is gone!  He s not sure when it happened (since we haven t used it in months) but we ve had lots of car vandalism in our area and my daughter s car has already been hit.

I m just a little bummed.  [:(] We ve going to have some warm weather over the next few days and Tim was planning on opening the camper but now I m a little concerned about doing it.

iwantapopupHitch pin Lock is less than $12.00
I have one one my hitch and a master hitch cover lock on the PU.That was around $25.00
It s all just a little piece of mind.
Cause if they really want it they will get it..

 iwantapopupGood advice Randy,

I didn t even know they made them, DH probably knows but I don t know much at all about hitches, except that it s gone.  I just hate that someone took it.  Last year someone stole our small lit deer out of our yard and this year I was reluctant to put anything outside.  We only had someone pull the lights out of our bushes and ruin them but then Tim chained the large deer to the house so it couldn t be stolen.

My daughter had her window busted so they could break into her car and steal everything they could get their hands on.  She s saving for an alarm system.  We live in a nice area but it doesn t seem to matter where you live.

iwantapopupSorry to hear about your loss. [:o]  I take the draw bar out when I am not using it, and I have the locking pin also.

iwantapopupWe got into the habit years ago of removing the drawbar after spending a Saturday afternoon trying to hammer out a drawbar that had overwintered several years and was a mass of rust.  I guess we should have know better being from the snow/rust belt. FIL (I m glad it was his truck not mine) finally got it out by chaining the ball to a large tree and leaving 20 foot of slack dropped the clutch. It took three hits to get it loose.

iwantapopupRandy is right on the hitch pin lock, if you can afford it spend the extra and get a stainless steel one.

I bought a polished stainless steel draw bar and a stainles steel ball and they still look like new. I need to get the stainless steel locking hitch pin to complete the " look"  and get rid of the rusty locking hitch pin.

iwantapopupI hate it when that happens.  Mine was stolen few years ago from inside my job box when I was working in the city..used a crowbar to pry it open.  They did it a few days before we were suppose to go camping also.  I got a new one for $45, and now keep it inside the truck under the back seat, and it s only on when it s attached to the camper.  As far as the neighborhood thing goes...no where is safe now a days, and it seems like you always have to take preventive measures no matter what you do so you re not a victem.

iwantapopupI am so sorry to hear that!  Seems it is happening more and more that nothing is safe to be left outside and that they would steal the bark off of your trees if they could figure out how to sell it.  Got one of those Uniden Bearcat Scanners for Christmas and dang I couldn t believe all of the crime going on around us!  Kind of sorry now that I have one because you soon learn that ALL areas are becoming a haven for criminals.  Thankfully it wasn t your camper or truck that they decided to steal as that seems to be going around a lot lately too.  Something for nothing is the criminal s motto!  The only reason that we have become proactive about removing ours is that it is a " stinger"  type used with the Reese Dual Cam system and they are NOT cheap to replace or even easy to locate in a pinch should ours become " lost" .  We even remove it at the campground because you just never know who might decide to drive through the campground and take it. Hopefully you can get one to replace the one they took and those locking pins are great to have as it definitely will make them VERY difficult to get off!
Hope today is a better day..........

iwantapopupWow! This is a first for me. I have the locks but only been using the one for the trailer. In the winter I store the hitch but in the summer I leave it on all the time because you never know when you will get in the mood...  I wonder how many trailers have been haul away?[:o]

I am sorry th here this.  Hopefully your dealer can fix you up again.

iwantapopupLinda, Just go to walmart to the hitch area. That s where you will find the hitch pin locks.

iwantapopupWell you got all the suggestions but here s one more....

Take a hot wire from your trailer harness and hook it up to the drawbar.  Next time that sucker tries to steal it you ll hear the screaming.

 Just a thought...

iwantapopupfollowing advice on the board, I bought the trailer coupler lock for $25 at Walmart.

then my SIL told me to get a lock for the hitch.  I found a twin-set at Camping World for $22.  They look like mini-dumbells: one for the trailer hitch and one that goes through the top of the trailer coupler when it is in the down position.

The best think is that they are keyed the same...one less key to carry around.

I can t use the " old: coupler lock and the new hitch pin lock at the same time, but I saw on Bart s site that he can.  Must be a Jayco thing.

This one I like..has a nice James Bond feel to it.  Problem is now a days, The thief would probabally sue you for pain and sufferring while he tried to rob you.  And I m sure some lawyer would take the case for the " cruel and unusual punishment" , and how it s not the thiefs fault he was robbing you..but society s for which you re a part of..so it s your own fault.  Then for giggles...they might say you entrapped the burglar with such a tempting target.  It s better to have someplace to...um..hide the body?

iwantapopupSorry to hear about the hitch being stolen, the lock seems like a idea, I always remove mine, get tired of hitting my shin an the darn thing.
