RE: Williamsburg, Va campgrounds?

 I had posted this question on the old boards, but then we put of the trip. Now we re talking about it for next year again.
 
 We d like to find a campground close to colonial Williamsburg. We ll be staying about 5 nights. For a longer trip, we prefer hook ups (electric and water).
 
 Any info is greatly appreciated![:)]
 
 (Sorry, I just saw another post on this area. I did a search and it didn t come up!. Anyway, any additional info is really appreciated).

 kathybrjIt wouldn t be the closest, but Newport News City Park is very nice.  Their brochure says they are 10 miles, 15 min. away from Williamsburg.  We got back last night from a MAPCE rally over the weekend.  There are 188 sites in 5 loops  E and F are the quietest.  There are hiking trails, bike trails, fishing, boat rentals, etc.   It is a very nice campground.

 kathybrjNewport News Park is very nice!  The drive in to Williamsburg isn t bad.  You can take I64 or go up 143 (the park is on 143).  We were on site D113 and had a lovely view of the reservior/lake.  In fact DH and I opened up the windows on the one bunk and laid in the bunk looking out over the water.
 
 The bath house is clean, the showers have great water pressure and get good and hot(felt really good after hiking around the park).  The campground was very restful which would be great after a long day site seeing.
 
 Be careful with the other cgs - check to make sure the railroad doesn t run next to them.  I remember hearing that one of them had that problem.

    I agree with wynot. I have been lookings at this place. I seen it on the forums somewhere where they were having a rally there. It is locally centered for all your fun times ? Even takes pets.

Gone-Camping

 kathybrjDefinately Newport News Park, exit 250-B off of I-64...
 
 Everything else is what I consider " Awning to awning"  camping, very close together sites, one even has train tracks running right behind the campsites.
 
 Newport News Park is huge @ 8,000 acres, largest municiple park east of the Mississippi. BIG sites, lots of space between most of them, and very well shaded. They do indeed allow pets, and the two biggest drawbacks are traffic noise (you can faintly hear I-64 traffic) and no swimming facilities at the campground.  kathybrjDo not stay at " Anvil CAmpground" . We were lurred in by the big add in our RV book. Its like staying on an anvil. You have a highway on one side and a railroad track on the other. We sure did get hammered !
