How did you start  your camping groups (i.e. NTPUCA, NickNeckCough)?  I ve searched and searched the web for camping groups specifically for women, and there are VERY few.  There is one in TX, but they meet often, and it s very involved.  I m looking for something more like my current group (NTPUCA) who meet every other month or so and it s just people getting together for a good time.

I ve been tinkering with the idea of looking into starting a women s only camping club.  What it takes to start one, how you get the dice rolling, etc etc.  I would like some input on this please....

JemJen24Ok, I didn t start MAPPUC but I would think a good way would be to get some messages out here and maybe irv2 and popupexplorer, etc. and give out some info and see if anyone is interested.  You need to decide if you would limit membership by what they are camping in - ie - pop-ups only or if any type of camper is welcome and whether or not you just want to keep it in a section of TX or open it up to anyone willing to make the drive.

If you can get some takers, you could see if you can get a little corner here to post group messages or start your own web site for your group and put links in your signature.

If you go with your own website, you can get ideas on how to set it up from the other group club sites.

Personally a woman s only group wouldn t interest me but then we are really into family camping but I m sure there are women out there who would be.

 Good luck JemJen!

JemJen24If your ever over in our area of the country, I would be more than happy to meet you all at the campground we re seasonal at (ernhrts3n8 and myself have non-camping husbands).

JemJen24I have a semi-camping husband. sometimes he goes, sometimes he doesn t.

He did not go to NJ with the PUX group (20 miles from home), but did stay for one night at Newport News this last weekend, then drove the 5 hours (not towing) home( he and Jeffrey had come down later in the AM with the car).

JemJen24Well, although I m single I wouldn t be interested in a women only group, but there are probably a lot of women who travel solo and would be - so their hubbies don t have to worry about them being with single men!!! [8D]

Being single, I was looking for other singles to camp with.  So, I start an informal group.  I put an ad in the Calendar section of The Miami Herald Neighbors and one of the first people to call helped set up a single campers forum on yahoo groups.

A lot of people find us by surfing, so this could well work for you, JemJen.  I d suggest thinking of a name such as Female Campers or perhaps using the word " woman"  would be better for people doing searches " Camping Women."

I ll email you privately the guidelines I came up with...and have had to revise as different situations arise.    People make their own reservations and take their own gear, thought we have made lots of friends and sometimes people have offered to lend people gear or car pool.  The idea is that anyone can organize a trip and they just post the info to the rest.  We usually do a potluck on the saturday night.   For other meals, people bring their own but a lot of sharing goes on.

All camping modes are acceptable for Scampers outings and the majority are tenters.  Funnily enough, last weekend there were 2 popups, one motorhome and me IN A TENT....that proved to have lost its waterproofness and I got soaked (and was pretty miserable) during an incredible thunderstorm.  Boy, did I miss my popup.

My goal was to concentrate on the South Florida area so the drives wouldn t be too long, but we have several people from around the state who found us via yahoo.  For last weekend, 3 of us drove up from south fla. and three from the Tampa/St. Pete area.  One of them was grandpa stew, so it was nice to meet someone i met at PUT.

Good luck, I m sure it will work out just fine but you might not have that many in popups...some camp in vans.

JemJen24

JemJen24The main goal of this " Female only"  group would be for women to learn from women about roughing it on their own.  In my case, I m a much more avid camper than my husband and he also works all the holidays.  I, on the other hand, work for the government, so ...needless to say....I have all those great holidays off.   I refuse to sit on my butt waiting for him to have some time off.  I was thinking of making it a women s camping club (all types of campers welcome) for my area (North TX) and also letting children come along.

There s a website (www.campingwomen.org) that already does this kind of stuff and they re looking for more local chapters.  ...tho ...I want to do something a bit more " informal"  and just plain fun.  You know...women teaching women how to set up, back in , pop up, pop down, etc....then just having a good ol  time.  Heck, I need something to keep me occupied in between my NTPUCA trips! LOL

Anyhow...I was just tinkering with the idea.  I ll have to do some more research and perhaps run a " Test phase"  and create a link on my website, etc.  I ll be thinking on it.

Your pool from which to draw women-only campers in your area is small here at PUT. So you may want to plant the seed at PUX and IRV2 and others. Also, consider tapping into other women s clubs (not necessarily camping, but maybe " outdoorsy" ) in your area. The only other option I can think of is for you to organize outings with just the women of NTPUC. Between those three sources, I bet you can come up with at least 5 women who would want to go [:D].

The Robinsons

 JemJen24Jen,

I M IN!!!  It was the words " bringing the children..."  that did it for me.  Although I would love nothing more than to go away completely by myself, I doubt if DH would really like it if I did that all the time!  [:@]

Let me know what you come up with and if I can help you with anything.

 Buffi

JemJen24

JemJen24LOL...Buffi....I may take you up on that!!!  I just posted in one of the other threads that I bet you re hooked on camping since your maiden voyage.  Guess I was right! LOL

Heyyyy, BTW....how was ARkansas?  We re going to Lake Catherine in the Quachita mountains in May for our anniversary.  Bring some pics to the outing this weekend if you have any. I d love to see them!

Ok....I m going to start checking into this women s camping thing.  Ofcourse, my first loyalty will still be to NTPUCA, but this would allow me to fill in my camping slow time when they aren t camping.  And OFCOURSE children may come!!!!  Pharaoh would just DIE if he didn t have kids to drool on!!!! [:D]

can t wait to meet the gang this weekend.  I may show up by myself Friday afternoon and hubby will trickle in later that day.  I m thinkin  I ll be there 5:00ish.  Look for me!  Better yet...look for my sign. LOL  That should be easy enough to spot.

 More to come......stay tuned......

Gatsmommy

JemJen24Hmm, I m not sure I d want to come camping with the kid alone, by choice anyways (I have done it and would again)....>BUT I was thinking it might be a nice chance to get away and have some mommy only time. I even think DH would go for it if I take the four legged kid LOL.   Let me know. If you go south at all I would try to make some trips once in a while.

I took the new camper out last night for my first time towing it, but I still desperatly need some practice backing up. Right now I was just worried about being able to get it to DH  s work to pick him up for the NTPUCA trip on Friday.
