I want to make Bunk-End Hideaways like Coleman sells.  I m not sure how and where it attaches to the bunk, though.  If anyone has one and can take some pictures of it, especially where it attaches to the bunk, and E-mail them to me, I d be greatly appreciative.  They look so simple to make that I hate to spend the money Coleman wants for them.

 Thanks in advance![:)]

 Camping CoxesTrina,
Not sure what Coleman uses, but we have used Velcro, and snaps in the past. I like the velcro for the simplicity but it has a tendency to collect all kinds of interesting things, like hair and bugs. You might look at the possibility of using the existing hooks that are already there? If I do it again I will probably use the snaps. It is on the project list...just a long way down it.[&:][8D]

Camping CoxesI made my own and used snaps to attach it also. They come in a kit with a tool to install them on the materail. The other half has screws to mount them to the bottom of the bunk. I got mine at a discount/farm supply store locally. For the material for the skirt I bought a nylon tarp from a Army/Navy surplus store and cut it to size and then sewed it together.

Camping CoxesI have the one Coleman make.  I can take pictures if you would like.  It attaches with some of the white plastic hooks used on the bunkend tenting.  The hide away has elastic around the top just like the bunkends.  At each end there is a loop and there are several gaps in the vinyl where you hook the elastic  to the plastic hooks.  It kept coming off the hooks so I put 3 small screw eyes in the bottom of the bunk.  One in each corner and one in the middle of the long side.  The 2 ends that attach with the loop of elastic stay on the hooks, so I didn t add any screw eyes there.  I use 3 small carabeners (spelled wrong I think) to clip the elastic to the screw eyes.  It only takes seconds to put on or off, but it can not fall off any more.  If you want pics let me know.

Absolutely!  Sounds like you have it all figured out.  I m okay with putting velcro on the canvas, but I really don t want to poke any holes in it by putting snaps into it.  Another problem with the velcro is that the adhesive on the back of velcro doesn t hold up well in heat (as I see from my drooping ruffle on the new curtains I made.  One I sewed the velcro on, the other I just used the adhesive to see how it would do.  It didnt  last two days.

I think I understand what you re saying, but pictures would be great.  As they say, " A picture is worth a thousand words."

Camping CoxesI made my own and used shower hooks to hang from the elastic thingys on the bottom.  Used for two years now, looks and works great.

Camping CoxesI made my own when I had a Coleman Santa Fe. I used very heavy duty vinyl shower curtains.  I cut them to length, ran a bungee cord through the holes at the top and used eye hooks to hold up the curtain (like tlhdoc).  Only difference it, I cut a piece out of eye closed eye hook (just enough to get the bungee cord in so I would have to use the carabeeners like tlhdoc.  I could pop the bungee off the hooks very quickly and slide the curtain open when I have to get in there.  I used sticky velcro to close the curtains together in the middle of it.

I still have the one I made for my Coleman.  I have to see if I can adapt it for our Hybrid... [:)]  Sounds like a new project![:D]

tlhdocThanks a bunch for the pictures.  It will help.  I m going to investigate the shower curtain hooks on the elastic too.  That might be even easier and it won t be expensive to experiment with.

Camping CoxesI have a question also,  do you somehow tie these to the ground to keep the wind from blowing them?  I am assuming stakes.  We will camp alot by the Great Lakes and wind could be a problem.

tlhdoc

Camping CoxesThe one Coleman makes has grommets at the bottom to stake it down.  I have never staked mine down.  I attach a bungee cord from the grommet to the rear crankdown stabilizer on the trailer.  The material is fairly heave and doesn t move that much unless there is a strong wind.

Camping CoxesI used rebarb in the hems of the ones I made out of shower curtains.  When I hemed them, I made a " sleeve"  along the bottom to slide a piece or two of rebarb into.  I was going to do the stakes, but I wanted to be able to slide the panels open easily.  The rebarb weighs it down just enough, but I can still slide the panels open.  Wish I had pictures for all of you...
