We just got home a little bit ago from our first visit, of the season, to the drive-in movies.  We watched the first movie outside of the car, but it was getting cold so the second movie we watched from inside.  The kids had a blast.

Turn Key

tlhdocHaven t been to a drive-in movie in over 25 years.  I don t believe any are left in ouur area.

tlhdocWe have the Monetta Drive-In (South Carolina) that still operates seasonally.  Haven t been though.  I do remember as an Ohio teenager stuffing a car trunk full of people so we could get in for free.  A weekend wasn t a weekend without a good old double feature at the drive in.  Of course, I m on the elderly side so there wasn t much else to do on a weekend.  Once a tornado destroyed the movie screen, leaving only the marquee.  The owner listed " Gone with the Wind"  as the current feature. [:D]

Mahaffey-Family

tlhdocWe also have one in Lexington, Virginia and I know of one in Grafton, West Virginia also, both still operating.

tlhdocOne of my fellow Chevy Avalanche owners is planning a cruise & meet at a Drive-in in June.  One of 5 left in the State of Oregon.  I m looking forward to it!

tlhdocLast weekend we went to Auburn In Koa to see the Purdue spring football game. Saturday evening we went to the drive in. It was fun.

tlhdocAh... the memories. Trunkloads of your friends stuffed behind the back seat so you could all save a couple bucks, the lousy speakers, trying to watch the movie through the foggy windows on a chilly night (even if you weren t doing anything to fog them up), the socializing, the mufflers scraping on the roller-coaster ridges as you searched for the best spot...

And then there was my buddy and his  48 pickup... we d pull the bench seat out of the cab, throw it over the back fence of the drive-in, crawl through a small hole in the fence, turn on all the speakers in the back row, then kick back and watch the movie while relaxing in his truck s seat. Amazing what you d do at 18 years old to save a couple bucks.[;)]

But all that was a long time ago, and the land is now covered by apartments and an assisted living complex for the elderly. Enjoy your drive-in while you can, cuz that little Slice of Americana is an endangered species for sure.

Ab DiverAhhh, the memories are good.We still have a drive in theater in Santa Cruz-come to think of it,we also have one of the last ocean front amusement parks on the best coast. And they call this town," progressive" .Well,I guess its best that some things never change. The beat goes on,the beat goes on....

Miller Tyme

tlhdocThe drive-in in our town was torn down about 12 years ago. On the last night, they showed " The Rocky Horror Picture Show" . If you ve ever been to a showing of that movie, you know how wild it gets.[;)] At the drive -in it was worse. Example: in the wedding scene, when the toast is made, people in indoor theatres throw toast. At the drive-in, they threw all kinds of sports balls at the screen.[:D]
I ended up playing poker at a table set up near the front, using the car s headlights for light. Made about $20, if I recall correctly.[8D]

NCSunshine

tlhdocWe have one in Albemarle, NC.  Usually it is a double or triple feature, so you sure get your monies worth.  The kids really enjoy it.[:D]

tlhdoc

tlhdocThe one we go to is a double feature.  Five bucks for adults and two for kids, you can t beat the prices and they show first run movies.

goose

tlhdocOnly a couple left in this state.  Getting the kids to enjoy the experience before they re all gone is on my long list of things to do.....

Miss-Teri

tlhdocDH and I used to go to drive-in movies when the girls were babies.  It was the only way we could go to a movie with them without worrying about them disturbing everyone else.  We would bring plenty of pillows and before long they would fall asleep so we could enjoy the movie!  [:D]
Never really appreciated the sound quality, though.  [: (]

copcarguy

tlhdocHey all!!  We have four drive-ins operating locally...  I didn t realize they were an " endangered species" ...  Our sound quality is great - tune your car stereo to 87.9FM and it plays through your car s system.

Camperroo

tlhdocWe love going to the Mendon drive-in with the kids in the summer...when we aren t camping of course.  They have twin screens so there s always good choices to watch.  The kids love to take a break and hop out of the car and go over to get something from the snack bar and bring it back to the car.  Especially when they can make their own sundaes!  It s a fun atmosphere!
