I went out today to crank up the camper and found that the cable had broken. We have a 1995 Dutchmen 1204. This is the 2nd time it has broken. It broke the first time about 5 years ago. And now it s broken again.

Just wondering if this has happened to you and if so, how long did it take to fix it and approx. how much did it cost? I have to wait and call on Monday because they are closed on Saturdays.

SltrawickWe also owned a 1995 Dutchmen Popup for about 18 months.  The very first time we cranked it up in our driveway the cable snapped just as the roof was completely up.  Took us 3 tries to get the correct size cable to replace it.    We replaced it and within 2 or three trips we were already noticing wear on the cable.   We did some research and found out that there was a modification to the lift system that you can get from the manufacturer/dealer.  Just call and explain the problem.   They will send out a kit of sorts with new pullys etc.  I can t say how well the modification worked, as we traded in the popup after installing it.
We also noticed that the force of the roof slamming down had bent the axle of the trailer.
The Modifcation kit was somewhere in the $50 range as we did not qualify for a free one..no warranty.  My husband did the work himself.  I am not sure how much it would cost for a dealer to install.

 SltrawickThanks for letting me know.

I just turned the popup in today and they said they would check out to see why the cable had broke for the 2nd time (I took it to a differant RV dealer this time).  They said it would run me about $140.00 to have it fixed.  Which is actually cheaper than I thought it would be.

 SltrawickWell,
We got our camper back today.  The cable wasn t broken after all.  When we put it down last, apparently I went too far with the crank and it came completly undone.  (Which is why I thought it was broken at the end there).
They fixed it and even gave me a 1 year warranty on the work.  :)
