I am headed to the WINSTON at Lowe s Motor Speedway this weekend.
I am campin  Thursday night til Sunday morning. I have my WINSTON tickets and have been invited to go to the truck race Friday night and watch it from a suite.. I m movin  on up!!!
If you make it to the WINSTON, I will be camped in the Morehead Farms CG near the paved roads leading into the campground. This CG is behind the track past Richard Petty s driving school on the left coming from the track.
 Look us up!

byrdr1I ll be there, too!  We re leaving Friday morning, so we should arrive early Friday afternoon. We re staying through till the 600, so we ll be camping for 10 nights! We re also in Morehead Farms campground.

Look for the green Dodge Durango with VA license " 18FAN5" , and the Coleman Utah with Bobby & Terry Labonte and Sterling Marlin flags (my racin  buddy is a Sterling fan), and, of course, Old Glory!

10 days of camping and racing!  Can t wait!!!!  [:D][:D][:D]

byrdr1I have tickets to the 600 & I am hoping to go to the Winston, too.  I live near Charlotte, but I hope to camp at the track when my son gets a little older.

Do they have electricity hook up at Morhead Farms CG?  Do you need to call ahead or is it first come, first served?  How much do they charge?

I know that the race track has a place for campers (Rock Creek, I think) on Speedway Blvd.  I am pretty sure they do not have electricity & I am not sure how to keep the lights/fan/fridge on.  The full hook-up campground (Fleetwood) must fill up & be expensive as it looks full with big-rigs during the race.

Thanks for any help with my future camp at the track.

 Go #8, #15, & #18

byrdr1Well, I have the good fortune to live about 10 minutes from California Speedway in Fontana, and have gone to each of the NWC races there since the track opened. But, I m really really jealous of those of you who live in the Meca of the Stock Care Racing World!

I hope y all enjoy the racing and the camping.

REMEMBER DON T TURN RIGHT, YOU LL GET ALL TORE UP!

GO #6[:)]! GO #15[:o]! GO #20! [:@](I had to throw in one Bad Boy!)

 GO #24 [: (] - NOT!

QuoteDo they have electricity hook up at Morhead Farms CG? NO they do not.
Do you need to call ahead or is it first come, first served? First come first served as far as I have seen at this cg.How much do they charge? $50.00 a week or a night or $100 for the winston through the 600.

byrdr1The Fleetwood campground is the snazzy one for big campers and has full hookups. It s also pretty expensive during race weekend (about $50/night or more). All the other campgrounds, Morehead Farms, Peninsula, and Rock City, are $50 per weekend. If you stay for both events, then it s $100. The campgrounds do not have any hookups, but they have two really nice bathhouses. The bigger one is located right next to the Fleetwood campground just off Speedway Blvd. There s a smaller one just behind Turn 4 on the speedway property. I ve never been in the smaller one--we always use the big one. It s open 24 hours and has 22 showers on both sides, plus sinks and toilets. There are also two dump stations next to the bathhouse, that also have water available to fill up your holding tank or water jugs--no charge.

The campgrounds have lots of portapotties that are usually serviced pretty regularly. However, I m taking my Thetford 155 and Paha Que Tepee anyway. (Comes in handy for those middle-of-the-night visits if you re a good distance from the portapotties, or if it s raining.)

I ve camped in Peninsula a couple of times, but prefer Morehead Farms. It s farther from the track, but the shuttle buses run pretty regularly. They even have a shower shuttle. I ve driven through Rock City a couple of times, and it lives up to its name...lots of big rocks!  I think it s the newest of the campgrounds--it didn t seem to have a lot of grass when I saw it. Dusty in dry weather and muddy in wet weather. Morehead Farms has more grass and trees than the others (except Fleetwood).

All the camping is reserved, but they usually have spaces available for those without reservations. The campgrounds are open for 600 camping beginning Monday, 5/19.

Here s map of the track with the locations of the campgrounds:

 http://www.lowesmotorspeedway.com/visitor_guide/#parking

There s another campground called Coleman Camping, but I have no idea how you get a space there! It s right next to the track and usually has lots of big motorhomes. Morehead Farms is where you find most of the tents and popups.

Just realized I didn t answer the question about how do you keep everything going with no hookups. Most folks with campers have generators. Since these campgrounds aren t exactly national parks with people looking for peace and quiet, the generators are tolerated pretty well. (And a smoothly running generator can provide " white noise"  to help drown out the inebriated late-night parties!) I run mine when I need to use the AC current or to give the battery a little boost. I turn it off at night--the DC lights are more than enough for getting ready for bed. I run the frig on propane (it s a 3-way). We also take at least one propane lantern, and a battery light or two (handy for late night trips to the portapottie).

We tent camped at the tracks for five years before I bought the camper, so we re just now adjusting to luxuries like electricity and running water.  LOL!!!
