I have been hunting for a good black streak cleaner to remove the black streaks and grime from the exterior of the PU.  I tried some hi-dollar stuff that was worthless.  Then I tried what I have used around the house for tough cleaning jobs.... Castrol Super Clean.  I was little nervous about using it, since it will remove the paint and finish from some surfaces.  I sprayed it on, hit it with a soft scrub brush, and hosed it off....... looks like new.  It works very well on the ABS panels/roof as well.  It did not remove any finish/paint from our Bayside.

TheWallRocksWe bought some expensive cleaner at a RV show earlier this year. Tried it on a small area a couple of weeks ago & it removed the black streaks ok. Didn t have time to do the whole roof but will probably do some more next time out.

However, I did notice that after a slight drizzle and when it s very humid, running my finger across the black spots makes them go away. So, I m thinking that if I pick a high humidity drizzly day and wash the roof with soap, water & a sponge, the black stuff may disappear without using any of the expensive cleaner!

Sure. Now the endless money pit wants me to do manual labor in addition to buying more stuff for it! [:(][;)][>:]

TheWallRocksI have used regular black streak remover and have found that Simple Green works better.  I use it on the whole PU.

Gamecock Camper

TheWallRocksI use the same thing on the PU that I use on the boat.  It can be found in the boating section (sometimes even in Wally World).  It is made by Starbrite and I think it is even called black streak remover.  It did a good job on the boat on areas that I haven t been able to clean with other products (or even my homemade bleach / spic-n-span solution)....

TheWallRocksI use Simple Green also. It works great. Much better than the black streak remover I bought from a camping store.

TheWallRocksOK, I know this will probably sound like a dumb question, but I am a new PU owner.  What black streaks are you talking about and where.  This way I will know what to look for.
                 Thanks

 TheWallRocksStarcraft Dad,

Fumes and dirt collect on the roof of the popup and the sun bakes them in. Eventually, you ll develop a darkening or blackening of the roof (especially the sides) because of it. After acid rains, it will develop a streaky look to it. It can be cleaned off, but is a pain to do so. And, no mater how much you clean, it always comes back. It s the curse of all trailers and RV s.

TheWallRocksUnless you have the ABS top[:D] It cleans up easy...but there are other issues[&:]

I use a citrus based solvent, can t recall the name at the moment but it was designed to remove asphalt from dump trucks, I do use the diluted version of it[8D] The only place I get black streaks is down the sides of my camper. The other thing is what appears to be mildew embedded in the plastic cover of the porch light and outside plug[:@] It comes mostly off with a bleach and TSP solution.

TheWallRocksAhhhh, thanks for the info.  I figured it was on the exterior but what I didn t know is what it was from.  Thanks again.[:)]
