Gone-Camping

For those of you that are interested, there is a very good story about how Gene Vesely used an old boat trailer to build his first folding trailer because his wife didn t want to sleep on the ground. That trailer was the beginning of what came to be the Apachee Pop-up, once the leading PU trailer on the market!!! I can relate, that second trailer he built, the one that had a box with the bed on top, is the model trailer my parents first bought in the early 60 s...

Gone-CampingGreat article Cliff! I have some friends that had one of the " one wheeled wonders"  that were mentioned in the article. They said the worst part about it was if you had a little too much weight in it, it would run you off the road on a curve[8D] Never actually saw the unit but they had some pictures of it.

Gone-CampingYes, i did enjoy reading that.  I remember in 1977 or 78 I went with ex #1 (!) to the Apache dealer in Hialeah (Fla) and we looked at the popups wondering if we could have one exported to Venezuela, where we lived.

25 years later, with another " ex"  notch on the bedpost [;)] I bought my own frikkin  popup!![8D]

Although, my all canvas wee PU is great for Florida...I think an A-frame is best for when I retire and go further afield!   The following quote from that article is probably the sort of thing I m waiting for Chalet or Aliner to design.  Removable side panels for hot weather.

<<Apache released a unit with a hard plastic roof and modular rigid side panels that were inserted into place after the roof was raised into position. >>
