Could I take the factory installed heater out of my camper without any problems?  It makes so much noise when cycling on and off when in use.....I can t stand it.  I would rather have the space for storage and get either a Mr Buddy Portable Heater or one of those Coleman Cat Heaters.  Which is my next question.  Which of those two is better?  We haven t done much camping above 6000 , but we have the opportunity to.

Thanks.  PS.... If I take out the original heater.....what can I do with it?

Jeffrey

DCI suppose you could take it out.[&:]

IMO, It seems like alot of work, for the little space you d gain.
You will have a hole to cover on the outside, and a door to make for the inside.
Plus the resale of your trailer would drop?

Can t help an opinion of the 2 heaters.
I prefer to put up with the noise and stay with a heater that vents to the outside.

If you do, save it for when you sell.

DCI seem to agree, it will be a fair amount of work for the storage space you will gain.

I can t comment on the Mr. Heater Buddy, but I do own one of the Coleman Cat heaters.  It puts out a fair amount of heat, but does not seem to " project"  it well.  Even sitting on the stove next to the front bunk it did not seem to keep the area warm.  Additionally, even though they say it can be used in enclosed areas, it gives off an odor that makes me uncomfortable.

Personally, for camping with electric I like using my Pelonis ceramic disk heater.  For dry camping I still stick with the Atwood LP gas furnace from the factory.  It does make some noise, but after using it a few times I don t really hear it any more.

 Good luck whatever you decide.

 DCDC,

I love to here mine heater start up when it is cold. It also works for back ground noise when in a crowed campground. Do you have A/C. That I would say is much noiser that the heater. Also if you camp as a stand alone what will be your heat source? Food for thought! [:D][:)]

 Keep on camping..

DCI would keep the furnace. If you want to add more heat, either heater, The Coleman will work at altitude, and there has been problems with the Mr. Buddy. It doesn t like the altitude above 8000 feet or so.

I know what your talking about.....those factory heaters are sooooooo noicey. This past weekend I had to use it so I  wore my ear plugs plus I slept at the other end of the pu and I could barely hear it. I put people who are sound sleepers near that end and it doesn t bother them.......try the ear plugs.....its so nice to have a toasty warm pu.[:D][:D][:D]

 DCHey!
Thanks for responding.  I have heard of the anticipator thing on the heater. Where bouts is it? IT s supposed to make it not cycle as much.  What do I need to do?

Also....the heater sure seems to blow three or 4 minutes worth of cold air before and after the flame is on. Anything to do about this? I wish I could have the fan always on but running real slow with a real low flame. All I want is enuf to take the chill off. Don t need it warm.

It seems like a guy could make a nice storage unit out of the space the heater takes with a large door and either shelves or drawers. Coleman screwed up the storage to the right of the fridge with hoses going all thru it, so I thot storage to the left of the fridge would be nice.

 Oh well.....Thanks again.

DCi use my built in heater during the day and an electric at night...it is rather loud....but it sure does heat good...[:D]
