We are the proud owners of a 2000 Jayco 10x.  We bought the popup new and we love it!  There are just a few minor problems.  I m hoping people may have fixes for me.

 1. Those darn ties for the roll up window curtains. I think there are only 2 that are still in working condition.  The strings have broken on the rest.

 2.  The cabinet and drawer latches break easily.  Minor problem.  I have an entire bag of replacements from my dealer.

 3.  I m a bit more concerned about this one.  It seems to be getting harder to " crank"  up every time we open the trailer.  Please excuse my ignorance, but is there something I should be doing to avoid this?

 4.  (The last I promise)  One of the plastic pegs on the bottom of the door frame has snapped off.  It should be inserted into the bottom half of the door to keep the two parts stable.  Now I have one side of the door that doesn t stay in place well.

 Any suggestions??

 Thank you

badonahue1: find some small nylon cord and restring. Any of them that don t stay behind the bunk slides should be taken loose and tied at the top before pushing in the bunks. Our dealer told us to take the center ones loose before pushing the bunks in. We still caught one, so now we tie them up at the top and have had no more trouble.

2: Make sure that they have just a little play in them. I have shimmed several of the catches and have reduced the replacement rate. But they are weak, and we still brake them.

3: Ask your dealer about this one.

4: Try drilling out the plastic in the doorframe and inserting a small piece of wooden dowel.

badonahueFor #3, have you greased the Zerks? There s a tube(s) that run under the center of the camper that have a grease fitting on both ends, front and back. The springs that raise the roof are in these. They need to be greased at least twice a year. Fill them right up! I think you ll see a big difference!

One of my strings broke, the others have pulled out of the staple behing the plastic track for the curtains.I used crimp-on electrical connector eyes for them and screw them back up, WATCH the length of the screw!

No problems with door or cabinet hardware, although my BIL broke the end off of his door too! He says it works easier now and hasn t fixed it. Not sure what holds it in place!!!

 badonahueThanks for the great advice.

I can t believe my trailer has " ZERKS" . [8D] That s pretty funny.

badonahueI looked in my manual and it says grease them once per year. I do it twice, once in the Spring before camping and once in the Fall as any grease added will displace any moisture that got in. By the way, you may want to put a pice of cardboard under it while and after greasing, as grease will come out of the Zerks when they are filled! Also use a light coating of Silicone Spray on the lifter posts, do NOT use grease here as it will attract dirt! Protect the tenting behind the posts with a piece of cardboard as you are spraying the posts! You should also use a couple of drops of oil on the winch. The two upper shaft bearings and each end of the main drum on which the cable rolls. Be careful not to get oil in the clutch mechanism as it relies on friction to prevent " Sudden and Rapid unpopping up" ! In other words, the roof coming down!
 Hope this helps your problem!

Mine just broke too.  I m going to run over to the dealer and see if they have a replacement part.  If I find a replacement part, would you like me to pick up one for you too?

I d appreciate it if you could let me know the outcome.  I m in close proximity to my dealer.  If you find they offer a replacement I can get one from them.  I wouldn t want you to go through the trouble of sending it from Texas.

I am amazed at the friendliness of the people on this board.

I had been absent from the board for some time.  I m glad to be back.

 THANK YOU!!

badonahueI have the wee Qwest 8U and haven t had any of the problems you experienced, but I rarely lower the privacy curtains.  I guess I turn the lights off to change!

but I m with Sue ref not knowing about Zerks and their greasing...so here s a dumb question.  where do I get the grease (yuk!), its there a special kind/type/brand?????

This sounds like the sort of job I ll have to ask my friend who got a new to him popup.  we ll be camping next weekend (at Markham Park, Broward Co., Fla - if anyone wants to join us - email me direct) and I ll take some and tell him our Zerks need greasing.  He ll probably think I m making a pass at him[:o]

 badonahueSandy,

To grease a Zerk fitting you need a grease gun.  [link=http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=47520]Here is one from Harbor Freight[/link], but they have others.

The owners manual should spell out what lubricant you need to use, but to the best of my limited grease knowledge there are not that many choices in grease.

garym053

badonahueMy owners manual just says grease so I would assume any multipurpose grease would be fine! It can take quite a bit of grease so I wouldn t recommend one of those mini grease guns, as a pack of 3 of those small cartridges has about 1/2 the grease of a big cartridge and costs 3 times as much! Actuall it may not be 3 times, but it is more expensive!

midwest_camper

badonahueThanks for the info on the Zerks... Never heard of them before, and I m sure I read the whole manual (NOT)... bad male habit... I ll be greasing them this weekend.

garym053

badonahueThat s ONE of the great things about this forum! We all share our tips and reminders! It was here I learned that you don t put down the stabilizers until you are popped-up! AND I read the manual!!! After seeing that tip, I reread the manual and sure enough- there it was!!!
