 Hi all
I just bought a Starcraft pop-up camper ,used of course.  I would like to find some nice wooded sites either in a private or state campgounds.  I go to Swartswood group sites all the time but now I am looking for a different site maybe with a pool, water and electric hoookup and not have another camper so close I can smell his or her sweat lol.  Or hear those very private wispers (if Ican hear them they can hear me lol).  I live on long island but have never gone to Wildwood (someday) but would like to try a place in NY so I might be able to  fish and catch dinner ( there I go dreaming again). Well send me a reply would love to hear about a place that someone on here has gone to or a place to really stay away from.
Thanks for your help and so far Pop-Up times is a great magazine.

erniev61We just purchased a Coleman Taos and will be taking it out for it s maiden voyage at Turkey Swamp, a Monmouth County Park in two weeks.  We stayed there as tenters last year.  All sites seem to have water and electric and most importantly, all are pull through sites (i m new to backing up with a trailer).  Here is the link.

But the park is much nicer than the web pages makes it seem.  A fair bit of hiking, nice size lake with some boat rentals, and not too far (10-15 miles) from Great Adventure.  It s just off I-195 between Trenton and the shore.

erniev61Sad as it is for me to say, the NJ SP s are terrible. They re poorly maintained, have an archaic reservation system and aren t laid out all that well. If you want more rustic sites look at PA and NY SP s -- they re really quite nice (an almost immeasurable improvement over the NJ ones).

erniev61I guess it depends on what you re looking for...  We always enjoyed tenting at Voorhees SP in High Bridge NJ.  Always seemed to be a " true"  camping experience - no pool, activities, etc. - just woods.

To be honest, we camped there when the kids were little and home was 2 miles away.  We are also members of the observatory on park grounds so still go up there often (and plan to try the PU up there if we ever get a clear moonless night again).

I think at one point they had a half dozen sites with electric before the state dictated a no-hookup policy.  (I could be wrong on that though.)
