Our PU has a clean water holding tank for when there is no water available at the campsite.  We don t have hot water and only have the one faucet that works like a regular faucet when connected to an outside water source.  Now for my question.  When using the holding tank, do you have to pump up and down on the faucet to get the water to come out everytime you use it?  We have only done it once and it was a real pain in the neck.  When I consider that we have to sanitize the holding tank, pump like heck out of it to use the water in it, it just doesn t seem worth the effort so we are back to using big containers.  Am I missing something?  Is the water supposed to come out when you turn on the faucet or do you have to pump it every time?  Is it possible that it only has to be pumped until a vacuum forms?
 Thanks,
 Susan

slowpezMy PU is the same way.  You have to pump each time you use the water from the tank.  It doesn t hold the vacuum so that the water flows freely.

slowpezIf the tank could be mounted higher than the sink you could get a siphon effect going, but then it would be just as easy to do what you re doing now using jugs or containers.
The only real solution is a electric pump which pressurizes the lines between the pump and the faucet. The tank is vented and doesn t get pressurized.

slowpezYes you have to pump it every time.  Think about installing an electric water pump, then you don t have to pump it at all.

slowpezHere is a solution.  If you mainly camp with water hookups, install a house type facuet.  For dry camping use a one of the refrigerator bottles that has a " spigot."   I have one of the narrow stackable ones that Rubbermaid makes.  Sits on the counter with the " spigot"  over the sink so that I can turn it on and off just as I would the regular faucet.  The one I have holds a gallon but you can get 3 and 5 gallon ones as well.  I have a collapsible 5 gallon container that I simply refill the smaller container from.  It takes up very little space on the counter.  I keep the 5 gallon container outside.

slowpezYep, you have to pump it every time. I never bothered using my tank in the PU because of that and my worries over sanitizing it. The only way around that is to install a demand water pump, which will pressurize the line and when you turn on the tap, it ll detect the loss of pressure and turn itself on and keep pumping as long as the faucet is open.

Since the PU only had a 5 gallon tank anyway, which wouldn t last long enough to be very effective, it was simpler to carry several 2.5 gal spring water bottles with tap/spout, or take along one or two  7 gallon Agua-tainers (Wal-mart) and fetch water from the campground potable water taps. NOTE: don t use the same Aqua-tainers for fresh water that you would use for your gray water... [: (]

slowpezWe use the big containers too.  I pour a couple gallons in each season and use it just to cool down dish water or wet a cloth to clean up a spill.  It lasts all season.  I was a bit surprised too when we first got the pop-up.

slowpezon our old rockwood, we replaced the faucet with a water put and faucet which you can buy as a package...it think we got ours from jc whitney....my dh put a foot pad to operate it, cuz the switch kept turning on by itself...so we had to by pass the switch...but it was really nice.

slowpezI could be wrong, but I don t believe you need to pump the entire fresh water tank through the tap while sanitizing. [:)][:)][:)]

slowpezOur Rockwood had the same system and I hated it [:@].  I just didn t use it at all.  I bought two of the 2 1/2 gal jugs and used that all weekend.  Washing dishes was done in plastic tubs outside with heated water.  Now we have a bigger trailer that has a water pump, so I don t have to deal with that little plastic pump that s useless.  That was a huge improvement.

To make the best of your situation, I d just not use it if you don t have hookups.  It s just not worth your frustration.  Camping weekends are just too short to spend them pumping water into your sink!  [8D]
