My son and I were just rained out of a scout trip, so we spend the day popping in on any campground we could find on the way home.  Two that looked interesting in the eastern PA/North NJ area were Hickory Run State Park in PA and Tripplebrook resort in NJ.  Anyone have any experience with these?

Hickory run seemed like a nice state park.  (You have got to go see boulder field if you get the chance... an interesting geological formation.)  Only one loop with electric hookups which seemed kind of crowded for a rainy weekend, but they re not too far from Pocono raceway and this weekend s NASCAR race.

Tripplebrook seemed interesting... maybe better for younger children.  They had both open and wooded sites with electric and water... a nice playground or two... petting farm... family and adult pools... and a small lake across the street.

If any of you have experience at either of these, I d love to hear about it.  Any other suggestions for this area?

There were several campgrounds that seemed to just be a piece of land with as many trailers on them as would fit.  They seemed to be seasonal, but didn t offer anything other than maybe a pool.  What gives with these?

georgerHickory Run State park is a nice place. It s really great in the fall. I have not camped there in a long time but have great memories of the place.

georgerWe have a group trip (COTOC) at least once a year at Hickory Run SP.  It is a nice park and I agree about the boulder field, everyone should see it.  If you are interested in camping with a group feel free to join us in  September.  Here is a link to the thread about our trip.

We are a very informal club.

There is a second half loop that also has electric, but I agree that some of the sites are a little close.

GeorgeHickory Run is a wonderful place to camp. Stay away from the far loop though -- back by the walkin sites -- because it s loaded with pesky bears, and it tends to get a bit old chasing them suckers away constantly.

Tripplebrook. Is that the one out by Hope, right off of route 80? If so, that s a pretty decent place, if you want a more " civilized"  campground. The wooded loops are a bit tight though.
