 Coleman RoadGrill Owners,

When cooking, are you all using the 16-20 oz gas bottle or the big #20 tank.  Why? How much cooking time can you get out of the small bottle? Still looking at buying one but trying to get a better idea on it s needs.

whitestar505I usethe 29lb tank. the small ones ran out real quick.usually in the middle of cooking.
i bought the adapter and hose for about 8 bucks.

You can cook at least one meal with the 20 oz bottle can t ya?

I have the Coleman RoadTrip and I can show it to you this coming weekend if the " Lord is willing and the creek doesn t rise" .  I have an adaptor that I can run off of the 20 lb. tank but I have to unhook the regulator from the P/U, since I do not have a T.  I find it easier to use the small bottles and suprisingly you can cook quite a bit with these. I also bought a refill adaptor to refill the small bottles from the 20 lb. tank.

whitestar505We wanted to get a refillable tank, but one that was not as big as a 20 lb tank. We looked at the small  mushroom  style tank, but that didn t seem to store as well. So we wound up getting one that sits as tall as a 20 lb tank, but is about half as wide in diameter, I don t recall if it is 5 or 10 lbs capacity.

It lasts me at least 3 weekends, cooking breakfast, and dinners, and using to make coffee, boil hot water, etc. I keep a 1 lb disposable tank just in case I run out in the middle of a meal, which has not happened.

whitestar505I get about 3 big pots of coffee out of a small tanks. Not much....Been trying to find a 10 lb tank that dosen t cost an arm. Seems they cost double of the 20lb tanks. Probably will break down and buy the 20lb at Costco for 22.00.

whitestar505We use ours with the small tanks quite often. Especially when we " revert"  to tent camping for a weekend. On the last outing there were 4 adults and one small canister lasted for 2 big breakfasts and a steak dinner with some additional useage for coffee and there was probably enough left in the canister for another meal.
I usually take 2 or 3 canisters for a weekend and always bring back at least 1 full one and one that s about 1/2 full!

ForestCreatureCamping World has a great selection of odd size tanks. It seems the store has more selection then the catalog, I recall seeing tanks in range from one or two pounds and greater.  I do think that the price seems high for tanks smaller than 20 lbs, but, I felt it was worth it to have the convienience of a refillable tank, and also not to have something else to discard!

whitestar505We have th eroad trip grill and use it with the big propane tank.  I don t want to have to worry about whether the little bottle of propane will make it through a meal.

We also have the road trip fireplace and grill and I recommend it highly!  I don t have any pictures of our in action, but here it is off the Coleman site:  http://www.coleman.com/coleman/colemancom/detail.asp?product_id=5065-705

It breaks down into its own carrying case and has telescoping legs so that you can make the fire at any height you like.  We used it at our last mini-rally and every night it just seemed to draw everyone over for a campfire. It was awesome!  [:D]
