We got tired of the cold, grey, drizzly skies last Sunday (June 8) and went up to William Heise County Park near Julian for a couple nights.  It was sunny and 85 degrees!!  The large, wooded campground was nearly deserted (read that:  QUIET), but the mosquitoes and flies were rather pesky, by So Cal standards......nothing to bother with by Midwest standards!!  A pleasant trip and we ll go again in the fall when it s " Santa Ana clear"  to take advantage of views from hiking trails.  Info on the San Diego County Parks website.

cbWe were there last fall and enjoyed the campground. Had to have the ranger make 3 trips to tell a 5th wheeler to turn off his generator. We also went into Julian to make sure the apple pies were satisfactory. They were. We re going back in October.

cbWe were there June 2002 and had a great time.  It was a well-maintained campground with lots of open area for the kids to play in.  There are hiking trails for the avid hiker and shorter ones for the not-so-avid hiker.  We fit in the latter category.  Some of the views from this approximately 1.5 mile hike were absolutely beautiful.  The showers were free, as a I remember, and clean, although the daddy longlegs like to hang out in there, which creeped my DD out.  The town of Julian is a nice sidetrip, and as Moose mentioned, the apple pies are what keeps Julian on the map.   If your kids watch closely on the trip into Julian, they ll spot deer and wild turkeys in the meadows.

The drive there can get a bit windy and mountainous at times, but nothing bad enough to keep you from going there.
