If you like to camp in a " natural,"  rustic setting then you ll love Mission Tejas State Historical Park.  The park is located in the Piney Woods of East Texas about 22 miles east of Crockett.  It is small with only 17 campsites, five of which are W/S/E pull-throughs, the rest are W/E or Water only back-in and/or tent sites.  Shade is almost a given regardless of which site you re in.  If you re a history buff you will enjoy this little park, named for Mission San Francisco De Los Tejas, the first Spanish mission established in the province of Texas.  The park has a wooden chapel, built by the CCC in the 1930 s and the actual Rice Family log home, built between 1828 and 1838 and nature trails around a pond.  Playground is small and almost a joke, but kids seem to love the walk through the woods and around the pond.  Nearby (10 miles) is the Caddoan Mounds State Historical Park where you can learn about ancient Caddo Indian life in Texas.  The RR/Showers were clean but tiny (1 each sink, potty, shower in his and hers,) but shouldn t be a problem to popuppers.  We were in W/S/E site #9 which, like the others, was rough.  Of the 5 W/S/E pull-throughs, #8 is a real loser and the rest are fair to middling.  Other sites are just there and don t know that I would recommend any one over the others.
