We went to Carowinds Campground Fathers Day weekend in SC/NC and had a great time.  Weather was good-a little rain, really just enough to keep it cool.  We were in the tent/popup loop because a) it s cheaper b)we like the sites there-close to pool, etc.(although popups are welcome any where in the campground!).

The bad news was that we had our first bad experiance w/ fellow campers in well, let s just say over 20 years.[&:]  At almost dusk a small SUV pulled up and two 25-35ish couples got out and started putting up a tent.  They didn t speak when we said hello, so we left them alone.  One of the guys started immediately cussing up a storm.  Now, a few words we don t even notice, but this was every other word, and this guy had NO inside voice.  The kids and I took off for a walk, leaving DH at the site.  He said that the guy got louder and louder, using language that questioned parentage as well as GD and the f word every other word.  The proverbial straw was when he started with " well, if I had a nice popup"  and " if I could afford a nice @#*& big truck..."   That was enough for husband.  I m glad it wasn t 25 years ago when he would have handled it himself and it would NOT have ended well, or even a few years ago, when he would have tried to talk w/ the guy-since the kids he tries to be more hands off in such situations.

Anyway-he went to the office, which was closed.  He pushed the call button for security and told them our site #.  They were there before he could even walk back.  That was interesting, as the kids and I were just getting back and didn t have a clue @ why they were there[:o].  The officers spoke to DH who gave them the story, then they talked to the tenters who by now were quieting down.  When the officers spoke w/ them, the guy said he didn t mean anything, and that he wasn t even talking about us.  Funny, there was only one other poup left on our side of the loop, and no one was home there, and it was 4-5 sites down![:@]

Anyway, they were told to hold it down or the sherrifs dept. would handle it next.  Things went pretty well after that until almost quiet time(11pm).  We have one of the small PVC street lights by the road, which we turn off before bed.  It was 10:15, and the girls and I were returning from the bathhouse, when we heard the guy in the tent talking real loudly about the $@%& bright light bothering them.  DH & DS were already inside going to bed, as we planned to, so we turned off the lights and went on to bed.  The next morning, the tent was gone before we even came out[:D]!

I hate that we had that problem, but it sure reinforced my sense of security knowing it was handled so well and quickly! Yep, we always say campers are the salt of the earth-always the nicest, and we don t plan to let this one incident change that.  Obviously, the guy was looking for a fight, and when he found he couldn t get it and that it would not be tolerated, he moved on.  I just hope he didn t head to YOUR campground[;)].

 Happy Camping!

scpreacherswifeI don t understand why when people camp, they have to be on their worst behavior at times!

Two weekends ago we went to a lake.  Everything was fine the first night.  We had a large group taking up three sites near the bathroom, and other than the fact they were still up laughing and cooking(!) at 11:30 PM, they weren t too loud and it was okay.  Then the next morning, a nice family we met moved out of their site, and a new group moved in.  All was well, until about 9:00 PM.  That s when they decided the whole campground should enjoy the so-called music of Eminem, in all his foul-mouthed glory.  I hoped it would quiet down once he realized he had won the " I have the loudest stereo"  contest, but it didn t.  Just as my husband decided something had to be done, a mom from up the hill went charging over that way.  Her husband called her back, which she ignored, until he used her full name -- " Linda Susan Smith, get back here."   You know what that means!   She s in big trouble, mister.  Anyway, her husband headed over there, the music stopped, and I saw him and another guy from up the hill above them coming away from the site.  We didn t do anything right away, hoping the rangers would come by any minute, but that wasn t happening right then.

We bring our " boombox"  and play either country or Christian music.  We realize not everyone likes the type of music we do, so we keep it at a reasonable level.  I don t get why others don t think the same way.  But these are the same folks who leave a messy campsite and think it s fun to see how high that flame from the campfire can shoot up with just the right amount of lighter fluid.[:o]

 scpreacherswifeOn a brighter note...

Myself, and two other popup s had occupied 3 sites at a NF CG a few weeks ago. After the first night a group of younger (20 year olds) set up a tent camp in the one available site next to ours.

That night, they had their music cranked up pretty loud as darkness fell...We had discussed the loudness of their music and their choice of artists, but hadn t gotten  round to doing anything  bout it, when out of the darkness I heard an..." excuse me sir!" ...

Sure enough...one of the kids was standing there asking if their music was too loud, or bothering us...I was left speachless...And impressed...

I said it wouldn t bother me at all if they turned it down a little...Then thanked him for his thoughtfulness...

After he left I was thinking that, after showing that much thought and courtesy, I should have told them to party on!!![:D][:D][:D]

 Skol...

scpreacherswifeWe ve only encountered that once (knock on wood). Had a group of young adults camping a few sites down (we were in a NF, so no security). At 9 AM they decided to play rap so the whole CG could hear it. Rap before coffe dosen t sit well[:@]
I strolled down there and started with " hey dude, if you are going to blast that thing would you mind playing something besides rap"  . We got ionto a conversation about that s all they could find on the radio, they forgot their CDs (I offered some SRV, but they declined).  They did apologize saying they diddn t realize it was so loud and turned it down. It remained low for the rest of the weekend, except for when the radio had some SRV on, then they cranked it up[:D]

In all the years we have been camping we have gotten very lucky to not have horrible neighbors. I think most of that has to do with the out of the way places we camp (to far for a quick run to the beer store) it seems to keep the majority of the partiers away.

scpreacherswifeon occasion we would have some rowdy campers near us but not really bad....the only thing that drives me nuts is what the heck is all the traffica about in campgrounds well after midnight and with the brights on no less!!![: (]
