 Folks,

A very big deal happen here yesterday at APG (Aberdeen Proving Grounds Military Base) when a 1 1/2 year old bear walked into APG through the Main Gate.  He was met with a large crowd waiting for him. He has been in the new paper every day for a week working his way around the county. APG is a very large game reserve with no bears on it. It does has the largest concentration or bald eagles in the world. Currently 43 pairs..

This bear has been tracked in from the western part of the state and they are protecting him like you would not believe. Federal Game warrants are still tracking him here on post. It will be a great home for him. This place is LARGE..

For those of you who are near by, it is on the front page of the local county paper.

Cool about the bear!  Hopefully he ll settle in at the reserve.

Have you heard about the mountain lion a woman got photos of in her back yard in Havre de Grace?  There have also been spottings of a mountain lion in Jarrettsville.   Of course nobody will admit to one being around despite the photos. Our neighbor across the road has spotted black bear a couple times throughout the years in the woods behind his home.

I don t think people realize that the animals are still around since so many new neighborhoods are being built in the area, but where else do they have to go?

whitestar505We recently had a Black Bear on the northern side of Grand Rapids, and to be honest, I m rooting for the bears and other animals that are being displaced with all the developement of " executive homes"  that is taking place in any area that seems to be even remotely remote.   People want to live in the more natural parts of the country, as long as the nature in the natural spots doesn t interfere with them.   Instead of the animals having to acclimate to our presence, I believe we should have to acclimate to theirs, and make allowances for the fact that they are there.

 whitestar505Folks,

Bad News, The Bear was shot and killed last week after having a disagreement with a 145 lbs dog. The bear weighted only 105 lbs according to the local paper. The shooting is under investigation  by the DNR. The owner of the dog shot  the bear while they were fighting in his back yard. The bear was not dead and got away for about 50 yards. DNR then put him down
