I need to repair the corner piece of tha canvas that hooks under the corner of the bunk.  There was a small vertical tear in it until my dog fell out of the bunk, onto the ground, one night and now the tear is huge and running horizontally as well.  I repared a similar, but smaller tear on another corner by sewing a heavy denim patch to the underside. It doesn t look very good but it s effective.  I can t afford to have it repaired so I have to do it myself.  Anybody have any suggestions?

greyhounds4meL&F, you ll be surprised at how inexpensive a simple repair like that will cost. Check your Yellow pages under, boat canvas. It ll take you about 15-20 minutes to " disconnect"  the bunk end canvas, and most likely will be a 10 dollar while you wait repair.

greyhounds4meLori i have had to sew many repairs in our canvas. It s really in bad shape . We are even thinking about replacing it this year. But anyway i hav found the best way to sew them is to not just sew the patch on but also glue it as well. I use a carpet needle. and waxed carpet theard the reason for this is so as you pull the thread though the canvas some off the wax comes off the thread and helps seal the hole to keep water out. Years ago i took a leather working class and the way the showed us to sew the leather is the same wawy i sew the canvas.b Might i suggest getting a book on leather working and see if this gives you some of the ideas on how to sew it .
